Jon was first exposed to jazz by his music-loving parents in his hometown of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. Subsequently, his intensive studies (in his late teens and early 20's) of improvised music with the likes of Dave Liebman, Kenny Wheeler, Cecil Taylor, and Barry Harris eventually led to his professional musical collaborations with Joe Henderson, Dewey Redman, Paul Bley, Billy Hart, Drew Gress, Roy Haynes, Francois Houle and Gene Jackson, to name only a few.

Now based in Manhattan, Jon has of late been performing solo piano concerts and also leads a critically-acclaimed quartet featuring bassist Boris Kozlov, drummer Jeff Hirshfield and saxophonist/bass clarinetist Douglas Yates.

Jon has recorded nine albums/CDs and has received a Juno Award for the album Sky Dance, featuring the legendary saxophone player Joe Henderson.
