A special ensemble - featuring Mike Walker and Andy Schofield and brought together by NWJazzworks - performs a selection of pieces from Real Book North West, the ground-breaking new anthology of music by composers connected to the North West of England.
Up-tempo, straight ahead swingers are pitted against contemplative mood pieces; dirty, feel-good grooves sit alongside lyrical melodies. Add to the mix five of the region's most dynamic and expressive players and the result is an experience of sheer variety, energy and surprise.
Real Books originated in the US in the ’70s as unlicensed anthologies used by musicians to perform jazz standards. Real Book North West, launched in 2007 by NWJazzworks and published by Astute Music, is made up of 100 original compositions from 60 of the region’s finest jazz composers and is the first in the Real Book tradition to focus solely on UK artists.

A CD featuring 15 tracks by the band, distributed by 33 Records, is available at each of the performances.
