"one of the best 77 style live bands that I have seen over the last couple of years, pure British Punk Rock. Do yourself a favour check them out live" - Roy Heskieth Editor Pogo 'Till I Die.......................................................................
"Finally with 1am coming and going Boredom hit the stage. Having only heard this band from the songs on myspace I didn't really know what to expect live. What the crowd got was 40 odd minutes of unadulterated classic punk rock with melodies and chant a tunes all over the place" - Punkoiuk website....................
"As if begging for an example of attention to detail Boredom quite skilfully displayed what can be achieved if one practices and puts time and consideration into stage presence. The whole sound system seemed to be overhauled as these golden oldies thrashed out quite a remarkable set of classic punk rock" -OMD fungalpunk. website..................................................
Boredom was originally formed in 1994 by a gang of mates who were ‘bored’ of the mainstream and underground music scene at the time. After several line up changes over the first couple of years Boredom finally settled on Ian guitar, Stevie Clarke bass, Dani vocals and Ersy on the drums, who had all played together in various bands, at various periods of the early/mid eighties, although never all at the same time. In early part of 1997 signed to 'Talking Primates Management' headed by punk aficionado Alan G Parker. Encouraged by Alan the band sent a demo to Abstract Records (one time home to New Model Army and UK Subs). On the strength of the demo a four-album deal was signed and band went to Shamrock Studios to record their first album and single. From those sessions after much delay a three track E.P. entitled ‘Seditionariess Revisited’ was released in 1999. Due partly to lack of publicity by Abstract and the inability of the bands’ management to secure sufficient promotional gigs Boredoms’ debut release was not a commercial successes. After this failure Boredom parted company with Abstract and Talking Primates by mutual consent. In 2001 Boredom recruited a new member Andy ‘pee-wee’ Pearson as an additional guitarist to add more depth and dynamic to their live sets. After vowing to never again get involved with a major record label again the band teamed up with local D.I.Y. punk promoters/label Noize Anoize. This was to prove to be the bands most fruitful period to date an E.P. ‘Back and Kicking’ was released in 2004 followed by their previously unreleased debut album remixed by Andy Foulds and now entitled ‘Menthols and Cider’. In 2004 Boredom returned to the studio for the first time in four years and released a five track E.P. ‘Lowlife ‘. Lowlife was their most successful release to date and in 2005 the boys returned to the studio to set about recording a second album. With the album almost complete and the band about to embark on their first major tour disaster stuck…bassist Ste and drummer Ersy (for their own and good reasons) announced they were leaving the band. Boredom quickly recruited Andy Foulds (bass) and Andy Cummins (drums) to fulfill their contractual obligations and ensure that the tour went ahead.
By the end 2006 and the tour completed the band fell apart. And although a few patched up versions of Boredom have sporadically turned up at various venues and festivals over the past couple of years 'the real' Boredoms last gig was 14th December 2006 where they were joined on stage by Ersy and Ste Clarke. After a few years out now and a few old scores settled , all five original members have agreed it's time for the return of Boredom. We are currently concentrating on writing and recording new material and aim to return to the live circuit latter in the year.
We are aware that 1% of people actually check the music out when a comment like this is left, however, we have stuck our demo on our myspace and would appreciate it none the less if you gave us 10 minutes of your time.
