Jordan, le garçon révolutionnaire has but one month of university left this year, so please don't distract him during it (but feel free to do so afterwards). view more
About me: At the time of typing I'm an art student about to enter my third and final year of university (see my pics for a few examples from both school and university) and I like folk art, folklore, short stories, theatre and animation. I'm sorry that my own MySpace activity these days is limited to changing the profile song every once in a while but writing and drawing for my degree, my Web site and blog, the Michel Ocelot tribute page and my university's anime society leaves no time for anything more; please don't take it personally if I don't reply to your messages and comments. I still accept adds provided that you also give a satisfactory message to explain why, though I can't promise much in the way of conversion.
Though theatre is probably my first love I tend to write more about cinema (particularly of the animated, silent and black and white varieties) as with that the same films are accessible to people across the world. Le Palais des dessins animés therefore is my database of information pertaining to animated films and television, specifically that of Michel Ocelot, René Laloux and several similar or related directors. It has videographies, discographies, lyrics, biographies, release dates and more.
Supplementing that with both the latest news and my musings on the subject of animation and, occasionally, others is my blog which currently goes by the name of Waiting for Kalki (it's been through several title changes and there may be more ahead).
Thirdly, there is my unofficial tribute page to Ocelot's Azur & Asmar on which I spent an unacceptable amount of time during both exam periods this year. My personal Web site Jade Ring still exists and still carries content not found anywhere else but I plan to migrate from it eventually, possibly to deviantART, in order to make uploading and categorising things easier.
So, to save some time for both of us, if you wish to be friends, here are some things you should know about me:
I will not ever never join any more social networking sites. I'm already on Facebook (URL available by request), Bebo, Blogger, Flixster, Frappr, TOKYOPOP and innumerable forums. If you send me an invitation and I turn it down, it's not because I don't like you; it's because there are already more than enough of these things for you to find me on.
I am quite obsessed with both Japanese and French culture. Anything foreign really but those are the two languages of which I'm most likely to suddenly start speaking in (even though all I know of both is taken from Pizzicato Five songs, particularly those on Romantique 96).
I am also prone to bursting into Kate Bush whenever someone mentions something which resembles her lyrics. To avoid such embarrassment, I highly suggest that you listen to all her best albums; that way, you should remember which phrases to avoid.
On average, I tend to prefer animation rather than live-action. I acknowledge that both have strengths and weaknesses but find myself more impressed by the skills involved in animation and consider it to be ultimately superior in what it can do. What I like most of all is theatre, and the live-action films that I do like are those which are more like theatre and animation, like Powell & Pressburger films, the early Zhang Yimous and old musicals with painted backdrops.
If there are 2 things which I simply cannot tolerate, they are noise and cultural ignorance. Both of these pet hates manifest themselves in far too many ways to list here but the main contributors respectively are talking, bad typography (which includes bad capitalisation) and something which I refer to as Sino-Japanese-colourblindness.
I very much like the Gothic & Lolita look (as I like any style with a strong ethnicity as long as it doesn't involve actual self-mutilation) but I have very little interest in horror films and even less so in almost anything which involves guitars. It is thus a source of great bemusement to me that such elegance is so often associated with such hideousness and blandness; things which I would associate with that jeans-and-a-T-shirt mid-Atlanticness which I so dislike.
I am not a big fan, neither figuratively nor physically, of Portishead, Tim BURTON, J.K. ROWLING, KANNO Yôko nor KAJIURA Yuki, and highly doubt that I never have/will be. I don't hate them, and can like or even love some aspects of some of their works, but not to the extent that everyone else who likes all the other things that I like seems to do so. If that makes sense.
What I do really appreciate is BBC Radio 3 (Late Junction in particular) for it provides me with a continuous stream of the pretty or interesting instrumental or foreign-language music which I require in order to do anything at all. So if I have any access to a radio or the internet, you can be pretty sure that I'll be listening to that. If I don't, then I'll be listening to either Chinese or Russian late Romantic or early 20th century music.
I am still very much interested in games, as something which has been one's raison d'être for several years is not easily forgotten. However, it has now been a good few years since I ever really played anything, the main reason being that I no longer find enjoyment in something which requires an input of effort.
Now we've got that over with, come on in! Let's look at the big sky and let the weirdness in. ^_-
This is my top 5 most played tracks in iTunes over the last week. Rather redundant, as I'm mostly a radio listener, and doubly so as Last.fm isn't suited to classics but here it is anyway. I also edited my profile with Thomas' MySpace Editor.
Who I'd like to meet: Someone who shares my tastes in comics and animation but also in music and theatre. Someone from whom I could borrow anime and manga and Japanese and Korean CDs from (as no one could afford to buy it all themselves) but in return I'll introduce them to such things as Reiniger, Ocelot and, most of all, Kneehigh Theatre. Preferably someone with lots of CLAMP and Stravinsky and/or Pizzicato Five, as I'm always running out of those. But also someone whom I can take to live performances, lie out in grass with and talk about insects and watch my strange old animation DVDs with, as it feels greedy to do so on my own.
On a more technical note, I'm also looking for fluent and preferably native speakers of mainland European languages to help me with Le Palais des dessins animés, which I've so far been working on single-handedly.
the reason we say we like girlsd is to deter the thought that we're gay...cuz we're not and people MIGHt get that idea...u never know. i mean we want fans of ALL sexes!
oh u know about MOTHER...that makes ur an awesome person, really.
You're quite welcome. I checked out the page to see the b/g and it looks great. What program did you use to make that? I don't know how you feel about resources, or what program you use, but there are a lot of great free vectors around to work with, as well as brushes, if you use Photoshop. Ultimately, in Photoshop, you could just end up making your own brush, which is a lot of fun, and can make a really cool pattern with a few quirks in the brush dynamics! I listened to that song on your page, and thought it was awesome, btw. Reminds me a lot of some kind of ether flow, or spirit glen, etc. bla bla.
Thank you for the friend request, and it was a pleasure to add you. My name's Cherie. Is yours Jordan? You have a lovely taste in monochromatic patterns, and I rather like your jellyfish-esque girl painting. Cheers. :-)
As for Simon and Eliza...too bad they don't exist anymore :(
I don't know if you've heard of them, but Simon was one half of the Nottingham electronic duo Bent. Uniquely beautiful music, perhaps my favourite band, along with Homelife.
Jordan, I was so happy to hear from you after such a terribly long time.
Thank you for bringing so interesting things closer to me. You know how much I love discovering new things. About the Lotte Reiniger video: What you posted moved me very much, how did you come across the greek version of it?? I was not aware neither of the band Checkmate in 2 flats/Ματ σε 2 υφέσεις (wow, superb music-very unexpected!), or the creators of it. Thank you for your move and for sharing your knowledge!
I added you on YT btw.
As for the band Figurentheater, I love what I hear. You have understood me perfectly well, I suppose... ;) Thank you
What I add on my MySpace now and then is not always representative of what I listen to at the time, I'll try to add much more stuff there. Check my Music list as well, although I haven't updated it for a long time. (Sometimes, I'm afraid I'm cursed to constantly longing to discover artists and, thus, not to find the time needed to fully love each one of them)
I'm really curious (bad thing) to know what your college assignments could include.
Thank you once again, first of all for thinking of me :)
P.S. I'm also curious (I know, I should stop that!) to know how the greek language seems to you. Do you find it harsh/heavy/delicate/strange?

Film critics - who have been looking at Flavia Mastrella and Antonio Rezza’s work - comment, with nowadays instruments, repertory images of a past, which has never been so close and threatening.
Jordan! How are you? Tell me your news. I downloaded the soundtrack of "Pita Ten" by Masumi Ito (Hikaru Nanase) recently and what I've heard is pretty good. Still haven't found the time to listen to the whole of it.
Hey Jordan, can you recommend any more animation? Have been going through your recommendations - The Adventures of Prince Achmed, Kirikou and now own La Planete Sauvage =) Did you get round to watching Cat Soup? Its well worth it. Hope you are well x
