Simply Hot And Naturally African (SHANA) is a band made up of three guys from KZN now based in Gauteng.Nkosinathi Maphumulo (SOULISTIC MUSIC)from Umlazi in Durban (Club DJ), Mnqobi Mdabe (SHOTA MUSIC)(Voice Lecturer) from Ntuzuma T/ship also in Durban and Thandukwazi Demor Sikhosana (DEMOR MUSIC)(HOT music producer) from Brunt Ville T/ship in Mooi River. These guys met at Technikon Natal Durban while studying music and formed this magnificent band called SHANA in 1997. A shared passion for music led to an instant understanding, even though they came from widely different backgrounds. The combination has proved to be an excellent one, each musician bringing a special talent to a group. While sharing a love of African sounds, House, Kwaito and R&B, the guys have diverse personal tastes, which give their music both depth and subtle "flavours". The various experiences and different backgrounds they bring to the equation create surprisingly well-developed harmonies and complex sound fusions. Yes, SHANA puts their hearts and souls on the line with their music…and makes everyone sigh with their upbeat sounds; hence you can feel the soul in their songs. But most importantly, SHANA crosses all age groups as they’re determined to win over fans of all kinds irrespective of age, creed or race. They do their thing with flair, style and a genuine love for both their fans and music. In addition to promoting and performing behind their own albums, SHANA also do their own song writing and production, meaning that these guys are also professionals at what they’re doing. They’ve also co-produced albums for other artists as well, namely, The late Lebo Mathosa (SAMA 2005 Dance Album Winner)of the famous BoomShaka, Daddy (Do Like I Do), DJ’s@work 4 (SAMA 2005 nominee), the famous Threesome (Jeff, Koyo and Amstel who won the Duku-Duku Social Butterfly of the Year Award) including Elvovo who is rocking SA at the moment. The guys also worked on the Lovelife Advert. They did a beautiful song that has a great impact on the youth. ..Sikhululekile... The guys are also aspiring businessmen as they have started their own music label “SHANA Recordings” and this is their fourth project to be released under the label in partnership with DJ Christos’s label – Katsaitis music.These three hot producers have streched their talents and are running record labels,signing,producing and releasing new acts such as Bucie,Miss Kay,Mxolisi Ndongeni (DEMOR MUSIC) Phumeza,Zano(SHOTA MUSIC) Culoe de song,2melo (SOULISTIC MUSIC) The band fuses traditional melodies, modern house beats and come up with a very versatile unique style. Discovered by Busi Mhlongo who introduced them to MELT, Shana released their revamped Ladysmith Black Mambazo track in 2003 which won them dedicated fans around the country. The self-titled album is SHANA’s 2005 release with the hit ‘BENGA’ featuring Lebo Mathosa and the song was used as a soundtrack for the SAB Miller advert.Shana released their latest album IYO LENDABA with the hit Single INTLIZIYO Which caught the attention of the French producer, Franck Rodger who remixed INTLIZIYO. They have worked with the acclaimed DJ Christos of the DJs@work fame on the whole album. The album has 12 new dance tracks where they’ve also featured other artists. The dance album formula will probably work for all age groups because they invest their songs with lasting appeal by being true to their culture and beliefs. And in so doing, they have created music that is authentic enough to avoid artifice, smart enough to grow with the people and trusting enough to appeal to the public. SHANA is paying tribute to all S.A musicians and South Africans at large who have made it from being nobody to being someone.
