Interests

  • General

"I never cease to be amazed by what Uncle Monsterface is either interested in or at the least pretty good at. Before anything else , he takes performing with the rock band Uncle Monsterface very seriously and I know that he loves it.

Outside of that, he's also good at a downright weird array of stuff. I've seen him drive a race car at 200mph, climb a tree, train a kitten to stand on its hind legs, peform open-heart surgery with a pen-knife, finish the Times crossword puzzle almost completely and relatively quickly (though I'm not certain those are all 'real' words), make an awesome PB & J, dance up a storm...

But I don't know if this stuff actually qualifies as his interests or if he's just really likes to try a lot of stuff.

I think if he was hard-pressed to 'pick something to do,' it would be to sit around with his friends. And they're a WEIRD lot (I guess I'm probably amongst them, aren't I?)."
  • Music

"Well, he seems to like a lot of different music. He's obviously got a lot of love for the band that bears his name, but I think he likes anything so long as it's...hmmm... I don't know, I guess the continuing thread for the stuff that he likes is that it's a genuine expression of some sort.

I think he likes passion and honesty. And energy and fun. And, you know, any songs by fellow monsters, too (I know that he LOVES pretty much everything Cookie Monster ever wrote).

He made me a mix one time, and it had a lot of Aquabats, Oingo Boingo, They Might Be Giants and Devo on it. But that was just a mix he made for me.

I'm sure he's one of those guys that all of a sudden you discover he has expert knowledge about 18th Century baroque harpsichord music or the mating calls of the monarch butterfly or something - he's just that kind of guy."
  • Movies

"Same deal as the music, I think. But in particular, there are a few modern movies that I know he has a soft spot for because he'll sometimes insist that we watch them. Buckaroo Banzai, The Life Aquatic, Follow That Bird, The Fellowship of the Ring, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, The Empire Strikes Back, The Muppets Take Manhattan, Labyrinth, Serenity, The Princess Bride.

And a lot of documentaries. He hates the stuff that exploits people, but he loves pretty much anything else."
  • Television

"Ditto again. But I think I've deduced that in particular he really likes shows that support either monsters or a sense of teamwork. Teamwork that borders on 'found family of misfits' really.

Oh, he's gonna kill me when he reads this. Well, anyways, he loves both Firefly and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Venture Brothers, Sealab 2021, The Colbert Report, and The Kids in the Hall - I know that much.

He gets into a lot of cooking shows with Terrycloth Green, too. The two of them are this really weird and wonderful friendship, actually. They'll get into zones where all they watch or do for like 8 hours straight will be nature specials on Discovery Channel.

I'm sure he enjoys MONSTERFACE TEE VEE, too - what with the fact that it shares his name and he's in it fairly often..."
  • Books

"I know he reads a lot, but I'm not sure exactly what. Again, I think that he and TCG talk about books a lot, too, but it doesn't come up with me very often.

One time we had a really long discussion about the Tao Te Ching, and I know he likes a lot of different comic books. Come to think of it, I defintely saw Salinger's 'Nine Stories' on the floor of his sports car one time. But who knows, that car's a mess. "
  • Heroes

"I think you'd have to go ahead and ask him about this one yourself. If I were to take a stab, I'd say that his heroes are everyone on TEAM MONSTERFACE. And I suspect that he considers that to be pretty much everyone he ever meets...He and Terrycloth Green talk about Batman a lot, too..."

About me:

This is NOT the Myspace for Uncle Monsterface the band. This is the Monster/Sock Puppet Portrait.

STRANGE BUT TRUE! there are nice framed pictures of Uncle Monsterface and many of his friends for sale here at:
Marty's Sock Puppet Emporium

"I can't exactly remember the first time I ever met Uncle Monsterface. It's one of those things where it feels as though we've known each other forever. But then again, maybe we only met three or four months ago. However it went down, we were certainly fast friends despite his...odd habits.

So he's obviously this dedicated member of, or founder of, or inspiration for the rock band/tee vee show/experience by the same name - Uncle Monsterface. It's kind of a chicken and egg deal, but I suspect he was around before the band. Or at least this modern incarnation of the band...

He's really difficult to quantify - he's so many things, I'm pretty sure he's done a lot, and I have no idea where he actually came from. For instance - one time we got a letter from these strange bird-people from some remote area in Africa requesting his Royal Presence and rights for his 'eternal visage'. He laughed it off, but then we couldn't find him for like a week and when he finally turned up again he had this really cool new robe. Another time, this weird scientist showed up insisting that he 'complete the theorum so that the third layer may be closed'. Again, he kind of shrugged it off, but that kind of stuff just pops up on a crazily regular basis. But when he's around, somehow it doesn't really feel that crazy...And the next thing you know he'll just be napping on the couch all afternoon or trying to get everyone to go to Target with him...

So, yeah, he's riddled in mystery, wrapped in a blanket of secrets, and generally rides around in a fancy red car (who gives a giant green monster a license?). He takes it all in stride, really - but I do sometimes feel like he's sort of...I don't know...overwhelmed to be amongst people, I guess... He never talks about where he's from or what he has done - it's not that he avoids it, you just never think of it when you're with the guy. But sometimes I stop and wonder...

And when we do stop and think about it, we suspect that he's ancient, and despite the fact that he's incredibly kind, I think he's sometimes a slave to his nature. Like, sometimes his problem-solving skills are a little bit...well...monster-y, really. He's just this totally well-rounded and intellectual and downright worldly guy, but sometimes he thinks that the best possible solution for a problem is to burn it and/or eat it. At the end of the day - he's a big green monster, you know? So to be on the safe side, if you meet him, you're really gonna want to keep your hands away from his mouth.

Seriously."

Who I'd like to meet:

"In my experience, Monsterface wants to meet pretty much everyone.

He's sort of coy, himself- but the ladies sure do seem to want to meet him. I mean, I don't really know how he does it... He's this big monster - right? He's this complete gentleman (or gentlemonster, I suppose), he's a snazzy dresser, he's a great dancer, he's strong and he's silent and he's tall and he's a monster - all at once. I guess that that's every girl's dream combo...

Seriously, though, he pretty much wants to meet everyone. Just don't be an overtly bad person and keep your vital parts away from his mouth, and you'll get along just fine..."

    Dear Captain Monster-Man
In all honesty, I thought you were the one who stole the Band's top 8, but i know better now.
You have UMF on your top 8 instead of Harry and The Potters.
    I was so close.

I apologise. I accused you wrongly.
feel free to commence with any necesarry punishment.
    I'd prefer flogging.
    Thank you.
