| About Rebecca Miller |
|
....
I am a full blooded Mohawk from Six Nations, Ontario, Canada. Country music has been a huge part of my life. I grew up listening to Patsy Cline, The Judds, Patty Loveless, and Reba McEntire. They were my first influences and now I have so many I would never be able to name them all. I have learned a great deal from these legendary performers and hope to one day accomplish as much as they have. Singing for me, began at the age of six, performing for family members and friends at picnics and birthday parties. We have a pretty large family, so there was always somewhere to put on my show. By age 11, competing in singing competitions became a big part of my life, travelling from town to town to do what I love most. In the summer of 1993/94, after a lot of experience, I entered 5 competitions and won all but one. That was a real confidence booster, and it was at one of those competitions that I met the producer whom I worked with on my CD. I co-wrote one song on the CD called "No More Me & You". I was signed to a five year contract with an Independent Label who released 3 songs in Canada and Europe which all made the top 10 and earned me a few nominations for some awards. Having a song listed on the same charts as Garth Brooks and Reba McEntire is a real "reality check" for me on how I compare to other artists. Two videos were released to CMT Canada and received medium to heavy play. A lot of great reviews were received but because of funding problems we were not able to release the CD. During the term of the contract I was fortunate enough to open for Michelle Wright and "Living Legend" George Jones. Sharing the stage with "The Possum" was truly the highlight of my career! Agri-fest 2000 was also pretty exciting for me, to perform for the same crowd as Travis Tritt, Lonestar, and Lee Ann Womack. I have performed at a lot of local functions to help support the many different organizations from my hometown, Six Nations, Ontario, Canada, and surrounding agriculturally rich communities. I am honored to have been able to work with the people that have been involved in the following accomplishments:
- Nominated for the following awards:
Aboriginal Music Award,
European Country Music Award,
Big Country Music Award,
Producer, Randall Prescott, was nominated for a Canadian Country Music Award for the work done on "Listen to the Radio",
Winner of a "YTV Youth Achievement Award,
Performed at the Aboriginal Achievement Awards,
Performed at the 1st Annual Aboriginal Music Awards,
Finalist at the True Value Country Showdown for WYRK in Buffalo, New York.
Winner of the Sing to Win Competition at the Wildhorse Saloon in Nashville, Tennessee.
3rd Place winner at the Loretta Lynn Singing Contest in Tennessee.
Winner of the Nashville Palace Singing Contest in Nashville, Tennessee.
Winner of the Broken Spoke Saloon Singing Contest in Nashville, Tennessee.
Nashville, Tennessee is my current home. I have been working with some wonderful people and they have helped me so much. We started writing together and I am so thankful that they were willing to take me under their wing. I met Crystal Shawanda and Dewayne Strobel back in October of 2006 and we are now very good friends. They are very, very talented people and I can only hope to achieve as much as she has. She is an inspiration to me and she has been a great friend. I can only hope that both relationships, musical and personal, will get better with time. Watch out for her cd in the fall. It's gonna knock you off your feet!!!!
