Singer/songwriter Rebekah McLeod grew up in New Orleans with a love of music. Her dad was a drummer and her mom was a singer in a church band, and Rebekah had dreams of becoming a classical concert pianist. But she set aside her plans of making music when she married and started a family at a young age. Then in 2003, her identity as a musician resurfaced when several events in her life sent her on a spiritual excavation of sorts. Those trials produced a number of songs, including “When We Forgive,” which won her a grand prize in the 2004 God Song Contest.
In 2005, Rebekah released her debut album, “Evidence of His Love,” which garnered attention from the Gospel Music Association and led to a performance in Nashville at the GMA’s Writer’s Night. She describes her journey of faith as “a wrestling match between a stubborn woman and a relentlessly loving God.” That journey led her to pen lyrics such as
What a journey, what a song
You were with me all along
In a dry and barren land
When I did not understand
You were leading me, guiding me, holding my hand
Rebekah’s well-crafted lyrics and soaring melodies connect her to a wide range of listeners. Her classical piano training shines through in songs like “Never Alone,” but her writing and vocal style reflect a unique blend of contemporary, pop and gospel elements.
Rebekah is passionate about worshiping God and enjoys performing in concerts, church services and leading worship at conferences. Between being a wife and mother of three, she has played at venues across the country, including the Hylton Memorial Chapel near her home in Northern Virginia to the Dallas Convention Center for the American Gospel Music Festival. She currently is working on her second album, due to be released in 2009.
