Jamaican reared, Brooklyn born, New Orleans artist, Shaka brings more flavor to the mic than a pot of file gumbo served with lobster and a side of rice and peas. With so many influences it’s difficult to know what will be said or heard next. Shaka’s diverse upbringing led him to experience life on multiple class and culture levels, taking him from the concrete jungle of New York’s inner city, through the abstracted life of suburban Kenner, and back into the dark grind of the Big Easy. Coupled with his Jamaican values and ideals, these experiences inspire an unparalleled perspective on surviving, evolving, and striving for inner peace and righteousness in any and all environments. Shaka’s lyrics vary in style from poetic verse to rough and rude dancehall while reflecting thoughts ranging from street hustle, to global consciousness. It is obvious that Shaka is determined to relay his message of ONE, a struggle made strong by the blessing of fatherhood and the burden of vision, while helping to build a spiritually motivated economic force amongst the disenfranchised and underprivileged. Shaka knows that his journey, the task ordained upon him, will involve confronting and overcoming many obstacles and opposition in favor of truth and the greater good. His faith has been tested in battle time and again. He is ready. After all, as Shaka states in the chorus of one of my personal favorites "This is Rebel Biznez..."
