Music is powerful, but good music is revolutionary. Rebel Zion formed in 2009 with this idea in mind.
When Kimo Watanabe was looking for musicians to help him on a recording project he enlisted the help of long time friend and incredible bass player from Hilo Hawai'i, Aaron Okura. Aaron, quickly got buy in on the project from Shaun Thomas, a percussionist from Utah with a wide reaching reputation as one of the best drummers in the Salt Lake Valley. Between Aaron and Shaun, Rebel Zion boasts a driving rhythm section second to none.
Finding a lead guitar player was a bit harder, but the boys were able to hook up with Page McGinnis, recently back from a stint in the Middle East with the military. Page's intuitive ability to find the core of a song, and do whatever is necessary to bring it out and enhance it, made him a natural fit.
For keys, Bronte James of Afro Omega fame, stepped up and lent his expertise. Bronte has toured all over the United States on various projects and has a sense for the music that is really on par with the best of the best.
While the idea was to just get together to work on a studio project, the guys gelled so quickly and had so much fun, they decided to make a go of it and we're quickly playing gigs both big and small all over the Salt Lake Valley. From City Celebrations boasting a 20,000 people turn out to the larger Samoan Cultural Celebration, Rebel Zion is quickly gaining a solid fanbase and looking to continue making the music that they love.
Hey bro where are you recording your music? I got a friend with a studio you guys should get together and throw down some tracks. Hit me up I will talk to him as well... Much Love
