"Flamboyant" is maybe only one of the words to describe this fiery but yet down to earth emerging MC from south London. 19 year old Vivien who goes by the alias of REC (pronounced arr – ee – cee) has gone from strength to strength since what he calls his first real tune in 2006 to being one of the best MC/Artists his age although being relatively unknown and underrated. Having first started writing lyrics at the age of 13 his passion for music has only increased although still focusing on his education with him currently being in his first year of university. Not only does he possess endless artillery of flows but his lyrical content is amazingly beyond his years on any tempo. Breaking into the grime scene seems imminent with the ever increasing work rate which he hopes will not only turn him into a matured artist but also one that can make grime the genre which can have a positive effect on people’s lives.

However this young gun’s talents do not stop at the booth, with his ever increasing level of production in the grime and funky field. He has been producing since 2006 after a close affiliate of his (Clixx) showed him how to use FL Studio, since then he’s been practicing with eagerness to learn how different plug-ins and instruments can improve his beats. In 2008 he released a promotional instrumental CD entitled ‘Just Testing’ which gained relatively positive feedback from those that downloaded it.

As regards his more artistic side he has one promotional release entitled ‘Taking the Lead’ and also two EP’s (Extended Play) one with close firend Clixx ‘Mic Syndrome’ and a solo one entitled ‘Nearly There’ respectively, all of which were released in 2008 clearly stating his intent artistically. The next phase in his premature artistic adventure entitled 'Press Play' as he says himself ‘will be one of the best releases by an underrated artist, trust me’. He has also featured on tunes with Double S, Shimmer, Twissman, and many more.

REC is also an instrumental part of the self made Allstar Recordingz UK which he became affiliated with in mid 2008, which is currently made up of Clixx, Kr Saviour, Rampage and Renegade. His affiliation with Allstar Recordingz was made when he went to Rampage Studios to record a couple of tracks and Rampage impressed but what he heard and saw asked him to join, with REC wilfully accepting.

Furthermore he is currently in a collective call SouthStars Ent. which comprises of Clixx, Drastic and Drone. Still a very young group with REC being the eldest, he was originally approached in mid 2008, but refused due to not seeing any potential in the collective however after careful thought and the collective’s continuous pursuit of him he decided to become part of Southstars Ent.

All in all 2009 looks like a very positive year for REC with features, videos, and singles on the horizon he looks set to take the scene by storm so keep your eyes pealed and lend your ears to his music. In His own words he says ‘ I don’t like to brag about 09 this 09 that or what not like a lot of the upcoming youth I just make music, enjoy it, and hope that it brings enjoyment to listeners, if it doesn’t than it’s back to drawing board to perfect my craft.’
