Receita de Samba in its various forms has been playing together for about two years. Although on any given night the group may be comprised of a different line-up of musicians, it almost always includes husband and wife duo Ana Borges (vocals and percussion) and Bill Ward (vocals, guitar, percussion) either as a duo or accompanied by any combination of Alfredo Cardim (Surdo), Paulao (pandeiro, tamtam) and David Rumpler (cavaquinho, percussion), Vinícius Pienasola (percussion), as well as other special guests.
Receita de Samba specializes in traditional samba, known as "Samba de Raiz" or "Samba de Roda", as well as other folkloric brazilian styles like Forró, Ijexá, Baiao and xote. Depending on the format of the group the sound can range soft and intimate to loud and energetic, yet always with an emphasis on subtlety and quality - there is always a good balance between the voices and the percussion and string instruments, making it a performance well worth seeing whether you are there to dance or to just sit and listen.
