| General | Cooking, baking, gourmet food, home-made meals, restaurants, kitchen equipment. I also like to read a lot. I listen to music a lot more now that I'm retired and have time. Naturally I love the Golden Oldies, but I hope to become more current in my musical tastes. I think MySpace will help! | | Music | Oldies and World Music. But I'm starting to listen to some newer things. Tell me what you think is good. I'll try it! | | Movies | I like action movies and "chick flicks." | | Television | Old shows, mostly. The Prisoner, the original Avengers and Mission Impossible. I also like some newer shows (although "newer" to me is Xena and Hercules). Buffy of course, but not Angel. And Six Feet Under. German television is pretty awful, so I usually watch videos instead. | | Books | I taught English so of course I like to read! I am passionately addicted to cook books, but for literature I stick to the classics. I like collecting epic stories from all different cultures. | | Heroes | Julia Child! And The Galloping Gourmet! But, seriously, I think Martin Luther King, Jr. is one of the most amazing people who ever lived. Gandhi. Geronimo. Mandela. Bishop Desmond Tutu. Thomas Paine. Victoria Woodhull. Emma Goldman. Leon Trotsky. Frederick Douglass. Susan B. Anthony. Frida Kahlo. People who made a huge difference during their lifetimes. There are really an amazing number of these people. |

About me:
My cooking blog: Recipe-Free Cooking.
My passion is cooking, especially without recipes. I'm a retired teacher, but I've moonlighted as a caterer for most of my life. My specialty is catering benefit dinners for charities -- the kind I can never afford to go to! I've decided to start writing about cooking so I can share my knowledge. "Recipe-Free" cooking is becoming a lost art. Many of my students (I taught at community college) hardly cook at all and instead eat at fast food places or buy packaged food. Although I taught English, I created many lessons that had to do with food and students really enjoyed them. They learned (along with reading the classics) that cooking is not only fun, but easy once you understand how it works. Some of them have even cooked me dinner! I retired to Germany where there is a lot of great food, but I miss American cooking, especially Southern style.
