Reclaiming the Blade explores both European and Asian historic swordplay and offers an in-depth look at the fascinating world of stage combat on the silver screen. Also it is going to be narrated by John Rhys-Davies! If you don't know who that is, go rent the extended Lord of the Rings trilogy immediately and surrender the next day of your life to a great story. John Rhys-Davies is the one in the dwarf outfit holding the cool axes. He also played Sallah in the Indiana Jones movies.
Here's a quote that gives you a good idea of what the film entails: "...The Medieval and Renaissance blade, a profound and beautiful object handcrafted by master artisans of old. An object of great complexity, yet one with a singular use in mind- it is designed to kill. The truth of the sword has been shrouded in antiquity, and the Renaissance martial arts that brought it to being are long forgotten. The ancient practitioners lent us all they knew through their manuscripts. As gunslingers of the Renaissance they were western heroes with swords, and they lived and died by them. Yet today their history remains cloaked under a shadow of legend..."
Just watched it on Netflix too! Absolutely FANTASTIC! As a serious collector and a combat history buff I thought RTB was dead on target! Would have liked to have seen a bit more on The Master Sword Smith, Paul Champagne. But as I said, RTB is excellent! Thank you!
Thanks for the add. Paul Champaign, who is interviewed in your film and featured in the clip on this page, was one of the judges at our Chinese Swordsmanship tournament in Bozeman, MT, in 2008. He was a very nice guy, and his knowledge of swordsmithing, both Western and Eastern, was truly astounding.
