The Red Apples is a Chicago roots rock band that aims to cover alot of musical territory, featuring some great voices, scorching guitar licks and rock bottom rhythm. This band draws on many diverse influences from western swing to blues to country to rock, playing both covers and original songs. Based in Chicago, the band came into being with the marriage of one singer and one guitar player from divergent musical backgrounds. Their search to find common musical ground led them on an adventurous ride that turned into The Red Apples.
This band brings their eclectic musical ear to both their writing and their selection of cover material. Their originals range from driving gritty country flavored rock to jazzy swing tunes with a poetic sensiblilty. Covering everything from Duke Ellington to the Kinks, in a typical set the Apples will moan some Lucinda Williams as well as wail some Iggy Pop, with the occasional polka tune thrown in for good measure.
Every member of The Red Apples brings their own brand of musical expertise to the mix. Ron Lowy, a seasoned guitarist who has played with acts such as Commander Cody and his Lost Planet Airmen, Jump in the Saddle, and The Band, is a talented blend of singer and lead guitar player. His scintillating Stratocaster licks and unique musical sensibility are largely what lends The Red Apples their signature sound.
Wendy Parman combines a sense of drama with a terrific range and versitility as a vocalist. Her diverse musical influences and experience singing in various genres can be heard in both her lead and back up vocals. Ron and Wendy create a special chemistry onstage and when they start to harmonize, the temperature starts to rise.
Let's not forget the awesome skills and talents of Rich Castillo on drums, and our newest member, Jim Hintz on guitar. Both players go way back with Ron and some of you will remember them from The Wascally Wabbits. Dave Thompson rounds out the rhythm section with his tired and true rock bottom bass. The Red Apples can rock the house, tell you something about the blues, and swing with the best of them. They put on a great live show that'll grab you by your feet and get you swinging around the room.
