FRIDAY DEC 4th 9:30PM
PAUL BENOIT + SIDESTREET RENY

For the past 20 years, Paul Benoit has performed and recorded his own music and collaborated with numerous songwriters. From 1996-98 Paul's electric/acoustic roots rock band, Crosseyed, released two albums and toured successfully throughout the western U.S.

In 1997, Paul co-founded Hanuman, a 4piece all-acoustic instrumental ensemble blending jazz, bluegrass, funk, country and rock & roll with African beats. Hanuman released five albums, sold over 8,000 recordings and toured the U.S., playing at clubs, festivals, and theaters, up to 200 dates a year. In 2001, the band received Best Touring Band and Best Album awards from Sounds of Seattle and was voted best new band by the Seattle Weekly.

Paul's songwriting and sound continues to evolve with his solo work and he has released five solo recordings of roots-rock, pop, folk, blues and the lush and complex arrangements of his 2nd CD, Combustible, named a top 12 DIY CD in Performing Songwriter Magazine. He composed the soundtrack for 2 films including "Diggers", winner of the IFP/Seattle Spotlight award, which premiered at the 2007 Seattle International Film Festival.

His newly released 5th CD, Bluebird, was recorded in a small beach village in El Salvador and placed 23rd on the 2009 Euro-Americana Charts. Paul continues to perform throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, North Africa, Mexico and Central America solo, with his band, and with performer /poet Chris Chandler. ....

Yep....we are bringing back SIDESTREET RENY by popular demand!

(Blues/Roots/Folk) Reny and Bell (together for 14 years) blend bluesy/funky finger-style and slide on National Resonator guitar, original poignant songwriting and solid straight forward grooves. Drawing mostly from pre-war blues, roots and folk music with a little old school rap, calypso and dancehall reggae, SSR manage to forge their own sound and push musical boundaries in an era when many other musicians strive to sound the same.

In the last 20 plus years of Reny's career, he has recorded everything from folk rock to hip hop, reggae, and of course the blues. The SSR sound is one that Reny has spent the last 12 years cultivating; producing a gumbo of originality, where Delta Blues simmers with urban and carribean accents, completing this rootsy stew with wordy lyrics that showcase his unique "side street" perspective. Always weary of the traditions he represents, SSR navigates the modern musical landscape with a deep love for all that has come before, while still staying creative and vital, and constantly striving to make proud those who created that very framework on which his music is built.

The result of their efforts is a seemingly organic blend of the elements, sewing 100 plus years of American music into a rich tapestry of eclectic yet somehow familiar sounds all their own... Like everything, and nothing you've ever heard, all at once.

All-ages 'til 11pm, 21+ after that. $5 COVER!

SATURDAY DEC 5th 9:30PM
HOUSE ENGINE (Blues, R&B)

House Engine's goal is to provide the excuse to shake it. This band has lots of experience, full of history, and everyone brings a little something to the plate. The music is primarily blues, but varies with a little rock, alternative country, originals, Motown , funk, and a little Shout styles thrown in. Vashon has an incredible array of musicians and this band contributes. House Engine as been performing at the Red Bicycle for awhile now and we are really happy to have them with us on the 1st Sunday of every month. These guys are all about having a good time and we feel very fortunate that they come out each month and share their music with us. Come on out and enjoy a tasty meal at the Bike and hear some great music while you're at it. All-ages 'til 11pm, 21+ after that. $5 COVER

FRIDAY DEC 11th 9:30PM
THE BIG VALLEY RANGERS & THE SHIVERING DENIZENS

Many people ask them, “What in the hell is a Shivering Denizen?” If you listen to the lyrics of this band, it won’t take long to figure out. A combination of Roots /Outlaw Country & Rockabilly help paint the picture of misery and despair in the troubled past of The Shivering Denizen. There is some heavy influence from the likes of Hank Sr., David Allen Coe, Johnny Cash, Johnny Paycheck, and George Jones.

The Denizens started out in 2007 with Ron E. Banner and Daryl Whalen’s idea of starting a straight edge honky tonk band. They recruited stand up bass player, Jeff Davies; drummer, Bob Borasa and guitar player, Ken Wilford. However, this lineup would not stay intact very long. Ken Wilford moved to Australia and Jeff Davies was pretty busy with his other 12 bands that he played in. Daryl decided to split too. Ronnie and Bob kept the fire lit and kept rehearsing with just the acoustic, some drums and a couple microphones. They played a Christmas benefit in the winter of 07 with Zero Down and Beltholes guitar sensation, Fred Speakman. There was instant chemistry going on and Fred joined the band. They then recruited Hank Leinonin (former bass player for successful punk rock locals,, Go Like Hell). They started to really gel as a band and received great responses from large crowds at Slims and The Bit.

The Shivering D's finally went in to record a full length disc in December of 2008. They started working with Brian Nelson (engineer for Nirvana’s Lithium release) at Elliot Bay Recording Studio on Capital Hill. They banged out 10 songs in 2 days and finished up all the mixing and mastering a few days after that. The SD's believe the recording is fantastic and Fred laid down some sensational guitar tracks. He also added some piano in our ballad, Humptulips.

The Shivering Denizens have recently added guitar & banjo player, Lee Harvey Hartwood from the band…Hartwood to take Fred’s place in the lineup.

Current Lineup: Ron E.Banner - Acoustic Guitar, Lead Vocals Lee Harvey Hartwood - Guitar, Banjo Henry Leinonin - Stand up Bass, Vocals Bob “The Painter” Borasa - Drums, Vocals

All-ages 'til 11pm, 21+ after that. $5 COVER

SATURDAY DEC 12th 9:30PM
PUBLISH THE QUEST(Fusion/Roots Music)

Publish The Quest is excited about performing again at the Red Bike, the venue that is quickly becoming one of their favorites. The Quest is music and words tied and twisted together to make people move and think at the same time.. the Quest is life; bringing people together to share happiness and pain alike.. We have heard 'World Blues' as a term used to categorize this group, and I have heard 'Other' as well.. Publish The Quest, is a combination of Blues, Rock, Ska, World Pop of some kind and something else mixed and then decolonized. Dance music melodies and powerful lyrics.. thumping bass, and stout snare shots coupled with sassy horns and some wicked guitar lines.

The sound is so different and original, it’s something you need to experience live to appreciate it the most. This will most definitely be the type of show that fills the dance floor with bodies. For those of you that want to take the vibe home with you, PTQ will have copies of their CD available for purchase at this show, so pick one up before they are all gone! All-ages 'til 11pm, 21+ after that. $8 cover

FRIDAY DEC 18th 9:30PM
POULTRY IN MOTION

We've got a new thing going on the Island called "Poultry in Motion". That's right "Poultry" not "Poetry". It's a little country, a little Cajun and it's about having a good time. They may throw in some western swing as well; you just never can tell. Just look for the big yellow chicken. "Poultry in Motion" is a bunch of Vashon roosters: Dave Lang, the man who brought Cajun music to Seattle with "How's Bayou" back in the 70's, will be pumping the accordion, fiddle and mandolin. Wilson Abbott will be doing his swampy slide thing on Dobro and lap steel guitar. Gib Damon will be wackin' the drum kit. Steve Amsden is on the acoustic guitar with an occasional banjo break out. Doug Ringer lays down that solid bass line. Chris Anderson does the lead guitar duties on that bright red Strat. And Randy Bruce tickles the ivories and plays a sweet fiddle to boot. Finish your weekend with some great food, good drinks and some foot stompin' music with "Poultry in Motion". All-ages 'til 11pm, 21+ after that. $5 COVER

SATURDAY DEC 19th 9pm
ROBBIE FULKS & JENNY SCHEINMAN ....

Jenny Scheinman is a singer, violin player, composer and arranger. She grew up in the sticks playing folk music with her family, went on to study at Oberlin Conservatory, and has been performing as a violinist/fiddler since she was a teenager.

She has taken the #1 Rising Star Violinist title in the Downbeat Magazine Critics Poll and has been listed as one of their Top Ten Overall Violinists for the last five years. In addition, she has garnered numerous high-profile arranging credits with artists such as Lucinda Williams, Bono, Lou Reed and Sean Lennon, and has toured and recorded with Bill Frisell, Norah Jones, Madeleine Peyroux, Nels Cline, Vinicius Cantuaria, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, and Mark Ribot.

KARAOKE!

Singing karaoke for the first time in public may be one of the scariest moments of your life, but many people have discovered that it becomes easier over time. The fear and anxiety of singing in public is often replaced by the feeling of acceptance and appreciation by an attentive audience....you'll never know unless you try!

We are pleased to announce that the Red Bicycle has some new Karaoke hosts coming over from Bremerton – Tim & Mary Hoffman of Hoffman Karaoke – and we think you’ll really enjoy their expertise a lot!

A testimonial from Mike Pratt, who has seen Tim & Mary in action at the 19th Hole Restaurant & Lounge in Bremerton: “Having known Tim and Mary for years, both personally and professionally, I can assure you that making you look and feel your best on stage is a top priority. Stage, lighting, fog and effects are just the beginning. What really separates Hoffman Entertainment is not only their equipment...which is top notch...but their experience and ability to operate it. You'd be hard pressed to find DJ’s who can even come close. They love what they do and it shows. They invest themselves completely.” All-ages 'til 11pm, 21+ after that. Free cover!
