Back in 2004, Michael "Redbone" Walker teamed up with bass player Bill Kaht to form the Redbone Project Band. The concept was to deliver high performance rock, country, and r&b from a three-piece group. By keeping the membership small, the band could secure short-notice or low-budget gigs to fill vacancies in the schedule of the members' larger band, The 280 Cruisers.
We did not want to compromise on the value of the song selection, however. One of the biggest complaints that we ever hear from the folks we see at our shows is that every band that plays around here is playing the same stuff. The music was getting worn out. Redbone Project was founded on a single commitment to our fans, we want to take the standards and step them up a notch, or two, or ten. Michael and Bill teamed up with drummer/lead vocalist Mike Webb, and Pianist Al Hughes in the original selection of the band.
Since then, the band has rotated several members. In 2006, the band took a little break, and decided to spend more time with other ventures. The 280 Cruisers was staying semi-busy, and the band's sound company, "Redbone Project Productions," was starting to take off with live sound reinforcement gigs.
Nowadays, the Redbone Project is back with drummer Mark Hamilton, whom most recently played with Lottie's Pocket. "Acquiring Mark offers us the commitment and stability that we need to take this band to the next level, while remaining committed to our goal of giving the people the music that is one step above what they are used to getting. Mark is a tremendously talented musician, and a great friend, and we are really excited about the things we are doing thus far," says bass player, Bill Kaht.
In the short term, the band has been contracted by country vocalist Lance Stinson of Lumber City, Georgia, along with Lae Reynolds of Vidalia, Georgia, to perform several country/southern rock shows around Alamo, Fitzgerald, and Lumber City. Bill said, "between these shows with Lance and Lae, the 280 Cruisers, as well as our sound gigs, we are going to be very busy for most of 2007. I hope that everyone gets a chance to come out and join the party!"
