PAST EVENTS:
The Red Bull Soundclash Boston experience featured two bands – The Roots and Antibalas – with different music styles (Hip Hop and Afrobeat) facing-off on two stages positioned on opposite ends of the venue with the audience in the middle. In a series of four rounds, the bands perform various tasks—some rehearsed, some improvised—to showcase the range of their musical abilities. The audience participated in the back-and-forth exploration between the bands by judging each round.
A seven-piece band from Philadelphia, famed for having a jazzy, eclectic approach to Hip Hop. The frequently touring band has been featured in films and television. They also served as the house band on "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon," which premiered March 2 on NBC.
Bushwick, Brooklyn based Afrobeat band that is modeled after Fela Kuti's Africa 70 band and Eddie Palmieri's Harlem River Drive Orchestra. Although their music is primarily Afrobeat, it incorporates elements of jazz, funk, dub, improvised music, and traditional drumming from Cuba and West Africa.
Red Bull Soundclash received international acclaim from past events hosted in Japan, Russia, Hungary and the Netherlands. This event in Boston marked the third time Red Bull Soundclash has been hosted in the U.S. and the first time ever on the east coast (two events were held in Los Angeles in 2008 featuring the bands Allison and Rabanes; and Nico Vega and Crash Kings). Additional events for 2009 are planned internationally in Belgium, Poland and New Zealand.
