the idea of red.can. - name and logo - was originally made up in 2001. the real of being a label started in 2002. first, as often, we needed a label for our own releases of bands like GEPETTO and RUSS DEFENSE. but then, one night, i thought how it would be releasing a 7" of one of my fave-bands on my own record-label. that..s how it started with FLUF, soon later on the first 12" of munich-based JAKOV GOODNIGHT. then, in 2004, further releases of PURREN and ARE WE ELCTRIC?. in 2005 we released the debut of THE SUBROSA FALCON ASSOCIATION. in 2006 we had a compilation-7" RED.CAN.FESTIVAL.06 which has been released for a label-festival by the same name and with one song each of the bands PURREN, MITOTE, THE NINE and SUBROSA and also in fall the debut full-length of MITOTE. in 2007 we have had the debut full-length album of ANNA ZOITKE and in early 2008 THEE NINE, who unfortunately broke up just before the record was released. this year we..ll have a new and second album of SUBROSA FALCON ASS in late summer/fall but on the way there will be a 7" with two songs from the album out in May! also planned a split-vinyl of both bands MITOTE & PURREN and finally early summer definitely will bring us and all of you the long-awaited CAMPING ACADEMY-book / record / artyfarty / everything: a collection and documentation of SENOR BURNS & RED CAN RECORDS, a 10" included with yet unreleased songs from MR.G RAG, WALTER SCHREIFELS, DJ ERNESTO&RASCAL, ROCKET FREUDENTAL, IVICA VUKELIC, ORANGE Á TROIS.
running a label for me does not only mean to produce, release and sell records. beside the fact that the band really has to kick me - and this mostly happens with indie-noise-rocking stuff - the artwork and packaging has to be done special. that..s why i do the covers by myself. screen-printed or with parchment paper, thick black or coloured vinyl, inlays, mostly cdr-copies are included to the vinyls - for those who call no longer a record-player their own. for further information just visit www.red-can.com !
