American Red Cross of GGR's Interests
|
| General | The American Red Cross of Greater Grand Rapids is nearly entirely locally funded.
Despite popular belief, we are NOT a government agency, nor do we receive any funding from the National Red Cross. We thrive on the generosity of those in our community.
We are able to provide the life-saving services that we do each day because someone like you stepped forward and made a contribution of their resources and their time.
If you would like to make a donation, there are three ways you can!
1. Go to our website.
2. Stop by our offices at 1050 Fuller Ave. NE, Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm
3. Call us at 616-456-8661, and use a credit card over the phone.

EVENT: Culver’s “Give A Pint, Get A Pint” Day
DATE: July 11, 2008
Help Save a Life!
Every two seconds someone in America needs blood. The American Red Cross serves as the bridge between over 4 million generous blood donors and millions of patients in need each year.
On Friday, July 11 from 12 noon to 6 pm the American Red Cross Blood Mobile will be on site at the Culver’s restaurant located at 6300 28th St., in Grand Rapids to accept donations of blood. Culver’s is trying to help them reach their goal of 27 pints donated.
For all the generous blood donors, Culver’s will give you a coupon to redeem for a free pint of Culver’s Frozen Custard for giving a pint of blood and helping to save a life.
If you are interested in donating on Friday, July 11th, please give Steve Stephan, Culver’s owner/operator a call at 616-464-1190 to sign up or email him at cascadeculvers@msn.com.
Please help save a life this summer!

For more dates and to register, go to our website and look under “Calendar.”
| | Movies | Cancer patients receiving chemotherapy, children with sickle cell anemia, premature babies, liver transplant patients and those having routine, scheduled or emergency surgery are only some of the lives that are touched each and every day by blood donors.
All donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in general good health. Red Cross blood donors answer questions regarding their health history as well as have their blood pressure, temperature, pulse and red cell volume tested to ensure they are eligible to donate.
During the blood collection, a fresh and new needle, bag and tubing is used to ensure donor safety. Donated blood is sent to one of the Red Cross’ state of the art testing laboratories, where it undergoes numerous tests for diseases such as HIV and hepatitis.
In our American Red Cross Blood Services Region, we collect blood, manufacture blood products and supply 80% of the blood products used by Michigan hospital patients! Over 2,000 hospital patients utilize the blood products made from donations by volunteer donors every day in Michigan!
