Think of the word ’’wet’’ and it can evoke many meanings and emotions, which is just what the band Wet hopes to inspire. Whether it’s describing the sensual, lush sound of the music, or referring to a technical recording term that refers to reverberation, the meaning is ambiguous yet subtly disarming.
Singer/songwriter Jason Adams aka Reddy Redd explains: ’’You don’t know what to expect at first. The music is intriguing, passionate with elements of funk, soul and psychedelia.’’ It’s a combination he refers to as ’’indie soul,’’ a term he coined several years ago when he first wrote the songs that will be showcased Friday at the Funhouse in Bethlehem.
The group began in 2005 as a vehicle for performing Adams’ material. But soon all the members were imprinting their style onto the songs. Adams, who performed and wrote with the psyche-indie band Nagual Project and toured with pop-punk band Weston, takes inspiration from the vocal harmonies of the Beach Boys, and soul stalwarts like Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye, as well as the avante garde German band Can.
The result is an exciting blend of falsetto vocals and harmonies over melodic keyboard played by Adams and funky bass lines by Nate Barton. The rhythm section of Barton and drummer Will Power punctuate guitarist Joe Tkach’s liquid style that can be jangly and buoyant as well as edgy with distortion.
Songs like ’’Cell Phone,’’ about a woman who seduces a man and takes his cell phone as a playful joke, and ’’Tongue and Chic’’ explore with a subtle sense of humor the nuances in relationships between men and women.

dear gentlemen of Wet, i am competeing as a semi-finalist this Sunday at 1PM at the Banana Factory in Bethlehem in the 'Stars of Bethlehem' contest, trying to make the cut as eight of thirty-three who advance to the finals to perform at Musikfest, where the grand prize is $500 and a gig for Musikfest next year. i am humbly asking that if any of you are available THIS Sunday afternoon between 1-3PM, if you would be willing to come out and support me and cheer for me since the judges DO count audience reaction; and one may be sure that other attendees are there to cheer for THEIR faves. if i make the cut, food and drinks afterwards are ON ME for my cheering section. i thank you in advance for your consideration of this matter, and i bid everyone a WONDERFUL weekend no matter HOW you spend it:) yours trulie, julie XO
