What Is Red Death?
The Red Death is actually a poetic reference to Edgar Allan Poe's short story "The Masque of the Red Death.” I chose the Red Death as the name of my production company because of the stories many underlying meanings, as well as the moral, social, religious, and political issues that are personified within it, not to mention it‘s dark and ominous setting. The story also holds a great deal of relevance to myself as an artist, as well as my music. In short, the story is about Prince Prospero, who seals himself and a thousand of his wealthiest friends into a castle in order to protect them from a deadly plague, known only as the Red Death, that has been killing thousands of people in the country. But when the Prince and all his guest throw an extravagant costume ball in order to distract themselves from the suffering and death outside their walls, the Red Death, disguised as a costumed guest, enters and claims the lives of everyone present. The story ultimately explores the themes of human beings fear of death, sin, madness, and the end of the world. As a human being, the nature of death is one of finality and inevitability. As an artist, it is my desire to create music that will, in it’s own way defy death stand the test of time. And so the Red Death is born, not to signify an end, but merely to perpetuate the notion that though we may one day expire, it is our art that survives.

Tambudzai (born in Fontana, California on October 4, 1982) is a classically trained producer, songwriter, and
composer
who’s musical talents and range span many musical genres and styles. She is also uniquely the music
industries
premier female Hip Hop, Rap and R&B producer.
Tambudzai spent the majority of her childhood and adolescent years growing up in Riverside, California as
well as in
her native country of Zimbabwe, Africa. She first began studying music formally at the age of 8, playing the
flute in the
elementary school band. Developing a growing interest not only in playing but in writing music, at the age
of 12
Tambudzai got a synthesizer and music software, and began writing songs and composing short instrumental
works on
her computer. Her love of music performance and songwriting was such that she eventually went on to study
and
become proficient in a total of 14 different instruments, all ranging from percussion, to wind, to brass and
strings. The
instrument, though, that she became the most skilled in playing was the french horn, through which she was
awarded a
scholarship to attend the Idyllwild Arts Academy at the age of 14. Though she spent the majority of her time
playing in
the orchestra, Tambudzai always had a profound love for film music and while attending the Idyllwild Arts
Academy she
began taking private composition lessons in order to groom herself for a career as a film composer. During
her senior
year, Tambudzai was awarded over $80,000 in scholarships to attend various colleges and music
conservatories around
the world. Tambudzai graduated from Idyllwild in 2000 with her high school diploma and a certificate in both
French
horn performance, as well as composition. In addition to Idyllwild, Tambudzai has also studied at The Oberlin
Conservatory of Music in Ohio, as well as the Juilliard School in New York.
Since graduating, Tambudzai has gone on to write numerous orchestral pieces, chamber and solo works, and
works for
various combinations of African and Western instruments; some of which have been performed live in concert
and aired
on national television. Tambudzai has also scored a total pf 12 independent films and has written for several
television
and stage projects.
Tambudzai’s first transition into creating hip hop and rap music came in 2002. She always had a strong affinity
for rap
music, listening to both mainstream and underground artists. It was becoming familiar with the music of
producers such
as Timbaland, Dr. Dre and the Neptunes that sparked her interest in beat making and compelled her to invest
in her
first drum machine. In the years to follow, she went on to produce music and work with artists such as Lil Wayne, Kurupt, Ras Kass,
Layzie
Bone, Lil Scrappy, WestSide Bugg, and members of the G-Unit, just to name a few.
In 2006 Tambudzai founded her own production company, Red Death Productions, which is based out of her
recording
studio in southern California. Tambudzai brings with her a unique sound to Hip Hop and Rap. Utilizing
classical
compositional techniques, her music is frequently imbued with orchestral, as well as African aesthetics.
She is currently working on several projects including a Neo Soul album with new recording artist LaRayia, as
well as
production on 2 new studio albums. She is also scouting for new talent to add to the Red Death roster.
