THE VALLEY ARENA
Goodbye formal record labels and expectations. Hello DIY mentality. For their third release, We Died, this Long Beach trio will take care of nearly everything themselves, and they'll have a helluva time doing it.

CRYSTAL ANTLERS
Vocalist/bassist Jonny Bell and drummer Kevin Stuart are humble, real guys who are more reminiscent of your best friend's cousins than your typical big-headed rockstar primed with cookie-cutter answers. Basking in the neon light of a nail shop and standing in front of their brand new veggie oil-powered tour van, Bell and Stuart spoke with us on the topics of music videos, their upcoming full-length movie, their rigid tour schedule, and John Norris. World, be prepared to meet the slightly jazzy psych-rock goodness of the Crystal Antlers, a band whose live show might just be one of the best you'll see this year.

WE ARE THE ARSENAL
With the music scene in a choke hold, WATA talks to us about how they are here to stay with guerilla marketing techniques and lots and lots of pre-planning.

HYPERPOTAMUS
One loopstation, four mics. Hyperpotamus is live music at its very essence from a one man a-capella project based in Madrid, Spain... and what's even better is that he got his start playing underground metro stations.

JON STRONGBOW
By juxtaposing relatively uncommon influences with modern day landscapes and landmarks, Strongbow's pieces become surreal, dream-like sequences that provoke thought. The pieces always have much more to say than they initially seem to, and the justification for creating this series has notable implications for the current age.

LUCIEN KNUTESON
Portrait photographer Lucien Knuteson may not be the most talkative individual, but that's why he has his photography to speak for him. With only two years of practical experience under his belt and a degree in Commercial Photography from Seattle Community College, Knuteson's works capture the interest of all who wander through his studio in Pioneer Square's 619 Building.

THEA WOLFE
Wolfe is an artist that embraces life in its complete beauty. She seems to radiate passion and a zest for living, and whether it be in the form of art, music, food, or events, Wolfe lives to create and creates to live. Switching between intricately and surrealistically illustrated pieces colored with marker and realistic, colorful portrayals of musicians, Wolfe is a talented individual with mastery over numerous artforms.

BRENNAN COYLE
Brennan Coyle is one of the newest additions to Seattle's burgeoning street art scene, and his first solo show, which takes place this month at Snowboard Connection, is proof of his growth. The show will feature a hodge-podge of drawings, paintings, and cut skateboard decks, all modestly priced to sell and to appeal to the fickle Seattle art buyer.

    WE ARE INDEPENDENT.
In May 2004, REDEFINE was born from the reality that sometimes extremely talented people are overlooked while less talented people take the spotlight. In this day and age where even huge outlets like Billboard and SPIN Magazine have spots dedicated to independent music, our publication offers an alternative to the mainstream. We make clear that while the mainstream is not always bad, there are often greater things lurking underneath.

    WE ARE A DEMOCRACY.
Our publication is mostly run democratically and collaboratively. Each of our writers brings in his or her own input regarding which bands and artists should be given attention, and this method gives REDEFINE the overall feel of a publication that is well-versed and unbiased in its coverage. As a result, our publication is not limited by genre or style. We are equal-opportunity, and cover a large amount of submissions that are mailed in to us by relative nobodies. Many musicians and artists see their first bit of press in our magazine, and we are proud of that fact.

    WE ARE BUILDING A COMMUNITY.
In contrast to larger, corporate-run publications, our publication has a lot more "street cred," and we regularly hear from those in the art and music communities how important they think our publication is to their livelihoods. With our rotating staff of more than thirty diverse individuals from across the country, REDEFINE may be based in Seattle, but is not limited by the city's borders. It is a labor of love and passion, and has been sustained for years through just these things. We take a personal, one-on-one approach to communicating with our readers, and all of our staff play an active role in contributing to their local arts communities.
