The third album by Christopher Rees was released on 3rd September 2007. It features a duet with much loved American singer Victoria Williams as well as other special guests like singer Becky Newman (The Hot Puppies) and French singer Charline Rose (Calexico, Giant Sand). It showcases several sides of his impassioned song writing, covering everything from soulful country and folk to raucous delta blues / rock and heart rending ballads while comfortably balancing raw and rustic acoustics with sophisticated and sublime strings to create his best work yet!!! Christopher Rees
Cautionary Tales
Recorded entirely alone over six days in a tiny 200 year old cottage on the top of a mountain in Mid Wales, Alone On A Mountain Top is the polar opposite to the orchestral polish and drama of The Sweetest Ache. Drawing from the rustic traditions of Americana, country, delta blues, gospel and rock’n’roll, it became an unexpected success in the UK with major support from MOJO, UNCUT and Janice Long on BBC Radio 2 as well as opening the doors to international touring. The album garnered international distribution throughout Canada, Benelux and New Zealand where Rees toured with such fine company as Kelly Joe Phelps and Freakwater.
“Deliciously raw and spellbinding…A wonderful homespun triumph”.
(Phil Alexander, Editor in Chief - MOJO)
“A compelling set of vocal theatrics and spectral blues communion”. (UNCUT)
“An emotionally charged, world class singer songwriter”. (Janice Long – BBC RADIO 2)

Alone on a Mountain Top
(The Ty Bach Twt Sessions)
The debut album by Christopher Rees was released in October 2004. The Sweetest Ache is a sophisticated, ambitious, emotionally charged and intensely powerful record that captures the passionate and thrilling dynamics of his song writing backed by a dramatic string laden seven piece band. The album earned him the award of ‘Best Male Solo Artist’ at The Welsh Music Awards 2004.
“Moody and magnificent”. (Time Out)
“A mammoth piece of musical vision”. (Big Issue)
“If only everyone had Christopher Rees’ way with a bad mood”. (NME) Christopher Rees
The Sweetest Ache
Michael J Sheehy After releasing 6 magnificent and critically acclaimed albums on the Beggars Banquet label between 1997-2002 (3 as lead singer and guitarist with the amazing Dream City Film Club and 3 as a solo artist) Michael J Sheehy’s brand new album is scheduled for a UK release in January 2007. Arguably his best work yet, you can hear traces of greats like Elvis, Tom Waits, Dr John and Leonard Cohen pervading throughout a record full of brooding intimacy and intoxicating atmosphere. His tender vocal delivery often belies the debauched and Bukowski-esque nature of lyrics that describe a journey through sin, salvation, heaven, hell and back again. Hallelujah! KEITH TIPPETT TAPESTRY ORCHESTRA – LIVE AT LE MANS
First Weaving is from the 1998 Le Mans Jazz Festival; a gigantic session which became an underground classic despite never being commercially available. Originally commissioned by the BBC it stayed under wraps because the intention was to produce a studio recording for which the funding never materialised.
Although acknowledged as one of the great founding fathers of Post Modern British ‘jazz’, Keith Tippett is a mysterious figure, always on the edge of contemporary music. Today he is probably best known for his solo explorations in spontaneous composition, an irony given his history in collective music making, (i.e. Centipede, Ark, Mujician and the Georgian Ensemble etc.)
There is a whole debate about the relationship between the ‘jazz orchestra’ and ‘big band’ traditions, one that is complicated still further by a composition such as First Weaving, which draws inspiration from music reaching well beyond the label ‘jazz’. It is not just about orchestrating, Keith Tippett uses written composition to open up space for twenty, thirty, forty other soloists to come together to extend the possibilities of the score sheet.
First Weaving is from a certain place. The Fifth and Sixth Threads commencing Disc Two sound like prophetic elegies for nations which, in 1998, had still to suffer the tragedy of conflict. We know what happened. This music remains a First Weaving. If ever there was music which embraces hope it is here. The Tapestry Orchestra contains musicians who were there right at the beginning in Centipede – among them Larry Stabbins, Louis Moholo, Mark Charig, Paul Rutherford, Dave Amis, Julie Tippetts, Maggie Nicols and the late Elton Dean. First Weaving unites some of the most important innovators on the British scene, playing in a setting well beyond national boundaries. It has taken nine years for this brilliant performance to be heard on CD, now that it is available on Red Eye Music; it needs to be listened to more than ever. (Steve Day)

INTERGALLACTIC PROTEST LAUNCHED BY THE ROBOTS FROM MARS!
The Robots From Mars have launched a protest with the Beetlejuice Gaming Commission. The major issue focuses on the disadvantage that metallic robots have when playing Pong since most robots tend to light up when struck by the game ball. “But that all depends on the size of the game ball verses the size of the robot,” the Great Butbot advised, “there’s a proper ratio with these things.” Johnny Air-Guitar, “Getting struck by a ball of light is a real and constant danger…if I light up I’ll give my position away.” Rob “Rainbow” Marley, “I light up if I’m within six feet of a Pong match. I think it is a radiation thing.” “You’d light up anyway,” Johnny Air-Guitar added. “You’re always smoking.” This reporter noted that most of the beings attending the protest in the office of the Beetlejuice Gaming Commission took some of these comments by the Robots From Mars as a joke. But I’m not convinced. I never met a synthetic that had a sense of humor.
ZZ Van Hendrix, “Bowling is even worse than Pong. What robotic ten pin wants to stand around with 9 of his buddies just to get knocked down so that he has to continually pick himself back up again? It’s a senseless stupid ritual! And who gains…some fat old hippie in a tie-dyed T-shirt? Bowling and Pong are both barbaric. They should be outlawed!”

HAPPY BELATED ACROSS THE UNIVERSE DAY!!! From the ROBOTS FROM MARS
Music from Earth has been deliberately launched into space by humankind. Other than attaching a disc to a spacecraft or randomly broadcasting TV and radio signals, the Third Planet has never before attempted to share it’s musical culture with the Heavens. A Beatles song has been beamed out into the galaxy. NASA broadcasted the song, "Across the Universe", through the transmitters of its deep space communications network on the 40th anniversary of the songs recording at London's Abbey Road studios. February 4th also commemorated the space agency's 50th anniversary. The music was converted into digital data and sent on a 431 light year-journey towards Polaris, the North Star. The broadcast began its galactic crossing at 7 p.m. EST/February 4th 2008. Martian Side note: It might take awhile for the flower children around Polaris to respond to this broadcast. They prefer space polkas and hate all forms of technology.

I am awfully sorry to massmail you here, but figured this one is worth it.
In brief, I have a new album coming out in the EU later this month. It's called Off Track Betting. It's available in UK stores Feb 25th via reveal records and in the benelux via Lucky Dice.
I'll also be doing a brief tour of the UK in early march if you're in that neck of the woods. ( Including a session with BBC2's Bob Harris). check website & myspace for dates/places. And another in the fall over that way.
I will probably be following this note with another, sometime in the next few months, regarding the US release, and subsequent US touring. Details to follow as they fall into place..like the odd snowflakes billowing around this intermittently sunny day in nyc.
