From his grassroots beginnings in local homegrown hip-hop, Jason Hall has grown into his own as an artist and collaborator. Through writing and rhyming, Jason (known by the stage name of RedJay) has applied his personal experiences to paper to create an artistic rendering of the world around him. Growing up in Wilmington, Delaware as a teenager in the 1990s, RedJay learned the value of creativity in a part of the country where entertainment is a precious commodity. Both as a solo artist and writing and performing with longtime friend and fellow rapper Philly C in the duo StyleU, RedJay has put over a decade of hard work into his musical efforts to come into his own and light a fire under the local hip-hop scene.
With the release of his first complete recording, RedJay is seeking recognition for the intensive sweat equity he has invested into his self titled first release. Available for immediate download, as well as on CD, the album marks a long-awaited rite of passage for the 28-year-old rapper, whose obstacles include heartbreaking family strife, youthful run-ins with the law, and the devastating effects of the death of a close friend. Translated, these experiences became the bricks that laid the foundation for RedJay’s forthcoming effort, which was produced largely at his own home studio.
RedJay has applied what he’s learned from his life to harness a unique mixture of raw emotion, poetic talents and a strong sense of rhythm. The resulting sound offers an insight into the psyche of a promising artist who holds great admiration of music’s forefathers. His influences from Tupac, The Notorious B.I.G., Slick Rick, The Beatles, Nirvana and Led Zeppelin showcase a multi-genre appreciation for many sounds and styles, which RedJay has learned to respectfully emulate. Redjay has earned recognition on 93.7 WSTW's Hometown Heroes show.
He has had the opportunity to work with such producers as Big Silence (from Red Silence), Duke Cliffton, Gary Gnu, SoUneik, and Serafino. Musicians he has worked with include Clockwork, Shawn Lov, Joe Grant and Soul Theory. Future plans include laying down tracks in a professional studio, as well as performing at many more live gigs in the area.
