Red Kid’s debut album “Rocket Ship” was released in August 2008 to critical acclaim, two singles; “Rocketship” and “No Reason” were the top played songs on Phantom Fm in 2008. A hectic 12 months touring included appearances at festivals such as Electric Picnic, CastlePalooza, the
International Pop Overthrow in Liverpool and the After Life festival.
2008/09 has been the most successful 12 months for the band. They began twice nominated for a Balcony TV award( best band, best live act), two sound tracks for TV Surf Documentaries, two B-sides used on large TV advertising campaigns, and their single, the high octane “Rocket Ship” …
"...a cracking tune that never lets up in pace. The band are renowned for their frantic delivery and chaotic shows – they have succeeded in capturing some of that energy on record. Singer Ronan Turner delivers some nice’n’sleazy CBGBs vocal creating, with some help from the other boys, a chorus that will stay in your mind for weeks.” HOTPRESS
Their live shows have been described as “legendary”, “effortlessly swinging from rock to pop to punk”. Musically, setting out to blend the melodies and back beat of classic pop-rock acts such as Bowie and the Beatles with the raw live energy of the Stones and the Stooges. Throw in a collective love of the quirkiness of Talking Heads and the Velvet Underground and you’ve got an idea of their sound. Their album “Rocketship” was recorded in the hallowed ground of Pulse studios, Ireland's premier recording studio.
"Rocket Ship, fucking storms a path between the Sex Pistols and the Beach Boys and is totally fucking ace, obviously. The second flipper is also
ace, being a jaunty, Blur-ish on the meths with The Small Faces, excellent stuff. These people are brilliant, love them alot and then love them some

“an album of outstanding songs”, “Ronan Turner has been described as "charismatic", but a good frontman without a great band is just a show-off. Turner might be that, but Red Kid are a first-class outfit. The rock-pop vibe is perfectly executed, and there's not a bum song in sight, making you wonder where they've been hiding”. - The Irish Times : 5*****
