Paul Christiana
Position: Rhythm Guitar/Lead Vocals
Originally from New Orleans, Christiana started young, giving voice to words and music constantly playing in his head. Early influences were wrapped in the mystique of the jazz greats typical of New Orleans. Later this mixed with his ear for bands like Led Zepplin, Bad Company, and soul artists such as Jackie Wilson, Otis Redding, Donnie Hathaway, and Van Morrison. Christiana honed his craft and went from small smoke filled bars to performing opening acts for groups like KISS, Cinderella, and the Black Crows. Christiana's evolution has most recently brought him acclaim as a singer/song writer of truly original music blending jazz, rock and soul to form a unique brand of folk/blues/alternative music.
Roy Houchins
Position: Lead Guitar/Vocals
Originally from Tampa, Florida, Houchins is a second generation guitar player, and despite his fathers best efforts he refused to give up the guitar. His love and talent for music set its life course early, and at the age of sixteen he started a journey that has taken him from performing with country, funk and R & B acts, up to ?A? class international circuit tours, complete with staff roadies and security. His integrity does not allow him to take for granted the privilege of always earning a living as a professional musician. Through many life changes, his vision has always been to write and perform music in its purest form. He demands the highest standard for this art, and is considered by many to be one of the best natural guitar players witnessed live and in studio.
James Towns
Position: Bass/Vocals
Originally from Chicago, Towns began his musical adventure at the age of seven, playing trumpet and studying bass while in high school. Early on he began to develop a distinctive musical style rooted in R & B, jazz, blues, and rock and roll. While pursuing a number of interests, music remained his main focus. During college and graduate school Towns performed in many live shows and studio projects around the cities. Currently he works as a family therapist and continues to work with many professional musicians on stage and in the studio.
Chris Crooker
Position: Drums
Originally from Minneapolis, Crooker comes from a family of musicians and music lovers. With the encouragement of his parents and grandparents he started out on a snare and hi-hat at age 8. With formal lessons off and on through his teens, even at that early age he knew music wasn’t just something he was going to do, but who he was deep inside. After playing with local bands for several years, Crooker went into semi-retirement to devote time to his young family, but never stopped being that musician inside. Now, with the support of his family, he is poised to make those dreams come true by bringing his blend of hard-rocking, jazz and funk infused style to Red Room.
Originally formed as Paper Moon, we soon developed a new name, Red Room, coming from the seedy passionate ruins of New Orleans' own red-light district, the place where I was born and raised. We quickly shaped our originals and hit the clubs in and around the Minneapolis music scene. Through years of hard work and determination Red Room gained fans and friends along the way.
I just wanted to stop by to say hello and give you a little update on what Blood Root Mother is up to! We will be recording an EP of new music in August, and we recently finished recording a live DVD. The DVD is currently unreleased and I actually just saw it for the first time yesterday. It features the last two performances with Tony Ellis still alive, and some footage from the tribute show we played on the night of his funeral.
There are some cool covers, as well as some NEW music that will be on our upcoming EP. We're very excited about the new music and we'd like to share a sneak peak with you. Here's a video of a tune called Run Bobby Run:
