Sounds Like
"A mix of punk rock, pretty melodies, atypical composition, and gravelly voiced storytelling."
- The Boston Globe
There must be something in the NYC water that is making the borough of Brooklyn a musical hotbed! Perhaps known as the Nor’ eastern equivalent of the Emerald City, the Big Apple has brought another young band to my attention who have more potential than Barack Obama and talent to boot... Great lyricism coupled with a vocal style that is like an unabridged Waits with more fervor. Red Sails could have a bright future, once they bounce outta their borough.
- I Guess I'm Floating
"Tom Tierney has been turning heads for a few years, and his DIY ethic and attention to detail have allowed him and band mates Patrick Southern and Colin Fahrner to walk a tight line between raw theatrics and compositional prowess."
- The Hippodrome
Red Sails is Tom Tierney, Patrick Southern and Colin Fahrner. The trio was initially formed as a backing band for Tom Tierney's solo folk/punk project - playing the folk tunes in a new, noisier format. Today, Red Sails brings to life the wilder face of Tierney's songwriting, which the Boston Globe has called "a mix of punk rock, pretty melodies, atypical composition, and gravelly voiced storytelling."
Since forming, Red Sails has released an eponymous EP and has performed extensively in the New York and Boston area. After welcoming new drummer Colin Fahrner, the group is now preparing for the recording of a single, entitled Tides, which will be released toward the end of the year. Following that, the band plans to release their first full-length album in the spring of 2008.
Red Sails is based in New York and sometimes Boston, but will travel. Far. They will play anywhere: your bar, basement, ballroom, street corner, hall, coffeehouse, arena, living room, colliseum, barn, college, or gutter. Contact the band through myspace or over email at redsailsband@gmail.com.
