Sounds Like
"A mix of punk rock, pretty melodies, atypical composition, and gravelly voiced storytelling."
- The Boston Globe
There must be something in the NYC water that is making the borough of Brooklyn a musical hotbed! Perhaps known as the Nor’ eastern equivalent of the Emerald City, the Big Apple has brought another young band to my attention who have more potential than Barack Obama and talent to boot... Great lyricism coupled with a vocal style that is like an unabridged Waits with more fervor. Red Sails could have a bright future, once they bounce outta their borough.
- I Guess I'm Floating
"Tom Tierney has been turning heads for a few years, and his DIY ethic and attention to detail have allowed him and band mates Patrick Southern and Colin Fahrner to walk a tight line between raw theatrics and compositional prowess."
- The Hippodrome
Red Sails is on indefinite hiatus. We have had an incredible time playing together and are thankful for every note. Thanks to everyone for supporting us!
Red Sails was/is Tom Tierney, Patrick Southern and Colin Fahrner. The trio was initially formed as a backing band for Tom Tierney's solo folk/punk project - playing the folk tunes in a more raw, noisy format. Red Sails brings to life the wilder face of Tierney's songwriting, which the Boston Globe has called "a mix of punk rock, pretty melodies, atypical composition, and gravelly voiced storytelling."
Since forming, Red Sails has released an eponymous 5 song EP and the River Gods/Weathervane single and has performed extensively in New York and New England.
Despite our hiatus, we're all still very busy playing music! Tom and Patrick play in a new band called Tidal Arms with Francis Mark of Warship. Colin and Tom play in a band called Big Tree. Check out the links below! Thanks so much!
i will miss Red Sails. I had had this hope that one day, one day I could have joined the members of this band and had created something worth listening to....not that it already was...i've said too much.
