THE SCENE:
The Green Room "LIVE" and The Red Sea Bar are a humble, 2-room club. Together they form the venue, but not a "Roadhouse" style venue. In other words, the bar is not in the same room as the stage. However, there are 2 crossover locations into the bar and beverages are also available through a service window from the club side of the venue. Don't forget to ask about Drink Specials!
The Red Sea is what is frequently called a Mini-Venue. Some might even say Micro. However, the opposite can be said for its sound system, which is more than capable of handling the needs of the artists as well as the demands of even the most fickle of fans. The club offers a diverse selection of popular musical genres. Though most of the entertainment comes from the local scene, the size does not keep them from catering to many national and even international acts. They are located very close to the U of M and can compete heavily with other campus bars (where students can crawl across the street to their dorm rooms after a night of drinking...need be). A well-promoted show will always bring in a good crowd. There is not a regular crowd to speak of, other than a few "Bar Flies" common to most clubs. This means the audience consists of those attending the event based on the featured performance.
There is only seating for about 30, and every seat offers a good view of the stage. However, if you do not like where you are seated... STAND UP! We've found that most people enjoy standing close to the stage at concerts anyway.
The Red Sea is not a licensed "Dance Club", and are not allowed to use the word "Dance" in any ads...but I can invite you to move around to the beat and even rub up against someone you don't know. Make a new friend. You'll feel just right about it...especially after a few drinks. It gets a bit snug and hard to move around at full capacity (200), so when you finally get the bartender’s attention, order me a double Jack and Coke.
EVENT INFO:
Specific event logistics vary. Happy Hour is from 4-9pm daily and drink specials are offered nightly. On average, the cover is 18+ $7 / 21+ $5. Performance windows can fall anytime between 5pm and ending by 2am, 7 nights a week. Check specific listing for details. Private events and contract options are also available.
VALIDATED PARKING:
Parking is available in the lots behind the club and across the street, behind Midwest Mountaineering. More parking can be found 1/2 block East on Riverside Ave in the U of M parking ramp across from Hard Times Cafe'. If you are lucky enough to find curb side parking nearby, it's free after 6pm. Bring your validation tickets to the bar and get $2 off your purchase.

Here in Wisconsin we have a small window of opportunity to reclaim the public's right to use whatever medications,either natural or prerscribed in the maintenance of their health. I'm talking about the Jacki Rickert Medical Marijuana Act. Cannibas hemp has been used as a medicine for centuries. Eli Lilly had many preparations made from hemp that's recorded in their pharmacopeia in the 1920's. The DEA's Law Judge issued a statement that 'In it's natural state, marijuana is the most therapeutically active substance known to man.". Many who are like myself and have neuromuscular ailments are prescribed drugs that are far more harmful to us than the symptoms we are trying to get rid of. For myself it's about not having my kidney's shut down from trying to stop muscle spasms and ending the nerve pains that run down my legs that no drug prescribed by any doctor can ease. Ideally,as a Constitutional Right,we should be able to use any product that has a positive effect on our individual health. Cannibas hemp whether smoked,eaten or vaporized can do that for millions of patients and that right of choice should be ours,not lawmakers. But we find ourselves needing the aide of Lawmakers to get that right returned to us. If you support a person's right to use cannibas hemp or use it yourself, PLEASE contact you local Senator and State Representitive at; http://www.legis.state.wi.us and tell them to make the Jacki Rickert Medical Marijuana Act a law. I just wanted to stop by to say hello and give you a little update on what Blood Root Mother is up to! We will be recording an EP of new music in August, and we recently finished recording a live DVD. The DVD is currently unreleased and I actually just saw it for the first time a few days ago. It features the last two performances with Tony Ellis still alive, and some footage from the tribute show we played on the night of his funeral.
