About me:
After years of searching I finally found true love. I know that I'll be spending the rest of my life with Charlie. I think that there's someone out there for everyone. It's finding them that's the hard part. I had to look 300 miles! We got engaged in November 2007 and moved into our new house in April 2008. I just wish everyone could be as happy as me right now. *update* Charlie & I split up this weekend (12th December 2009). We'll still remain as friends but I broke her heart & I'll have to live with that for the rest of my life :-(
Let me introduce myself, I'm Bazza and live in the North East of England. I've spent most my life in the North East apart from 3 1/2 years in Libya and a year in Iran. I would have probably spent longer in Iran if it was not due to the fact that there was a revolution taking place while I was living there! I'm a total geek when it comes to music that includes listening, going to gigs, writing about it, playing in bands and releasing records.
I run the record label - Red Star Recordings - Please note: To any bands wanting to submit demos, I am only interested in political bands, artists and protest songs. Also I am not interested in listening to mp3s. If you have something you think I might like then please get in touch and you can send me a demo of your work. I also run the Redskins website who were an 80s left wing skinhead band mixing punk & soul.
I also play the bass guitar and have been in a number of bands - Afterglow (mod/Power pop), G Men (ska), Thee Strawberry Mynde
(garage/psych), The Alternative (mod pop) & The Sealclubbers (garage & psych). I played my first gig with The Alternative back in 4th October 1986, I can remember the date as it was also my 16th Birthday!
These days I'm in a studio band called The Che Men who play all types of music from political pop, ska, mod & power pop. I'm also back in a refomed Thee Strawberry Mynde with Tall Paul and Ian Lowes. We had our first practice in 10 years in February 2008 and played our comeback gig at The Clarendon in Hartlepool on Friday 4th July. Expect to hear a lot more from Thee Strawberry Mynde!
During my spare time I also like to DJ, I play a wide range of styles from ska, rocksteady, motown, northern soul, jazz, 60s beat, 2 tone, power pop, 60s garage, psych, hammond grooves & freakbeat. I'm a DJ for the internet radio station http://www.modradiouk.com and have done DJ spots at various dos in the North East. In 2006 I also DJ'd at The Spitz in London at a ska gig put on by Skanights and headlined by ex-Specials guitarist Roddy Radiation & his Skabilly Rebels. I was also the main DJ at the Satisfaction club night which took place at The Piper in Redcar every Sunday night. The first Satisfaction club night took place on Sunday 30th March 2008 and saw over 100 attend. Satisfaction came to an and on 3rd August 2008 after a run of 19 weeks. For more on Satisfaction check out the MySpace page at http://www.myspace.com/6tssatisfaction
Riding scooters is also something I enjoy. I have owned 6 scooters since 1987. 5 of them have been Vespa's (V100, Sportique, 2 PX125's and a PX200). These days I ride a Bajaj Chetak called Bessie Bajaj (see my photo section) which I've owned since 2002.
I was also the editor of the 80s Mod newsletter All Or Nothing and also the Mod fanzine All Our Yesterdays which ran for 7 issues in the mid 90s. Now I run The Mods Mailing List email newsletter which has been on the go
since 2001.
Who I'd like to meet: Chris Moore from the Redskins, Jerry Dammers, Bart Mendoza, Ed Ball (was stood right next to Ed Ball at a Rinaldi Sings gig once but was too shy to say hello).
Cheers Parmo-Master :-) Given it's taken me almonst a year to find my way back here expect to see me on the book with faces in about three years time! Ta for the link.
Glad you enjoyed Bridlington, shame we didn't bump into each other. I'm playing with secret affair in Holmfirth this month and in Dublin and 100 club in December. Looking forward to all of them!
