With a lyrical strength not seen in rapper under the age of 21 before, Redway creates history every time his swagger touches the mic! Born in Toronto, Canada, Redway’s introduction to music came when he first participated in his church’s music ministry. Using that as a base for learning the art of performance, Redway patterned artists Kirk Franklin, and Hezekiah Walker on how to engage the audience, and Ice Cube, Gang Starr and KRS-1 for his style of lyrical flow. Building on his interpretation of these icons, Redway seized every performance opportunity by participating in school plays, as well as community musical productions.
At the age of 17, Redway boldly stepped to the forefront of the Canadian Hip Hop scene when he recorded the 2006 summer anthem “Tdotwire Freak” which received heavy rotation on radio stations throughout Toronto, and coast to coast on the Rogers Music digital network; the song could also be heard in major shopping malls throughout the country. The follow up to that single was another regional hit called “Twerk Suttin,” which had an even greater impact on fans, who would routinely stop the young artist asking for an autograph.
Since boldly stepping forward in the Hip Hop genre, Redway has opened for artists JR Writer, Chamillionaire and Juelz Santana, and has ghost-written verses for many of the who’s who in the Hip Hop industry. On the production side, Redway has worked with Boi-1da, Rich Kidd, Scena/SP-12, Spinz, J.Staffz, and J-Stillton representing Canada, the US and Japan respectively.
In 2008, Redway recorded the much anticipated mixed tape entitled ‘The Fly Guy Volume 1’, hosted by DJ Malicious. He also released ‘The Rapper Guy’ hosted by Big Page, and ‘The 2-Week Mixed CD’. Each mixed tape sold out in a ‘New York’ minute after release. 2009 sees Redway with his head firmly on his shoulders, and a solid team surrounding him. With the release of the certified hit record called “Facebook Broads,” and follow up entitled “Pick Me Up” featuring Darnell, critics, radio jocks and fans agree that Redway is versed to make Hip Hop history every time his swagger touches the mic!
