Red Wharf is a British independent record label. It was established in the mid 1990s by Graham Bowers as a vehicle to publish music and artists whose work was difficult to accurately place in any of the named genres, and consequently publishes works that spans avant garde/experimental/progressive/ambient/contemporary music.
Red Wharf's output initially was that of Graham Bowers; these included Of Marys Blood, Transgression, Eternal Ghosts, Pilgrim, and although relatively quiet for the last few years due to health problems, Red Wharf has recently released new works by new artists to the label. The first of which being William Henshall'sDark Opus, followed by two Double Albums entitled Details 1&2 and Details 3&4, by Mel (Dr. Ian D Mellish). Over the coming months Mel's back catalogue of twenty albums, and forthcoming works are scheduled for release, for updates and further information please visit Red Wharf
The music label forms one aspect of Red Wharf, other artistic activities include painting, sculpture, stage design for theatre productions, soundscores for film and video, sound for art installations.
Featured artists and their work in these areas include:
John Smith and a selection of works from his portfolio of anarchic paintings and animation.
Clive Walley the internationally renowned fine art animation artist, featuring a selection of his films and two dimensional artwork. We have just finalised and published a double DVD that may be of interest. The DVD is titled 'In Conversation with Clive Walley'.
The format of the DVD is as the title suggests an informal conversation with Clive accompanied by most of the fine art animation films he has produced over the last 30 years.
Clive talks about his life, from his early days to the present. How and where his interest in the arts and his unique approach to animation originated, explaining his ideas, motives, production values and funding for each project and film. Each topic of conversation is followed by the related film which gives a valuable insight into all aspects of the film's making, particularly so for the MTV program Ident, which illustrates the painting on glass of each frame and the techniques used to achieve Clive's individual style utilising the three dimensional rig that he designed and built (which is now in use at the RCA in London).
The price for the double DVD retails at £30.00 plus VAT, an edited excerpt from the DVD along with details can be seen at the Red Wharf website. The following link will take you directly to the page DVD Feature
Mel (aka Dr. Ian D Mellish) and the Graphic Scores he originated as part of the musical works, forming the basis of his thesis for a doctorate in electronic musical composition.
Graham Bowers and the artwork associated with his musical compositions, his sculptures and short films.

Please pardon this intrusion. I hate spam, yet I spam others every Sunday. It's unforgivably hypocritical of me.
2007 was a great year for new Welsh music as you will have heard if you had the time to tune into the two Best of Year shows over the Christmas period. Thank you to everyone who contributed their music choices and voices to the first show. It was much appreciated and made for a great programme that better reflected tastes in new Welsh music amongst you, 'the audience', than any egocentric vehicle driven wholly by me. That was the following week's show!
So, two shows rammed to the gills with the best Welsh music of 2007. That was 6 hours straight and I still had to leave music out that I really wanted to play.
If 2008 is three quarters as good, we are in for some very, very interesting sounds.
Which is where the onus switches to you!
If you have recorded something of quality, and wish to vie for the accolade of 'demo of the week' and contribute to the first step in 2008 becoming a great year too then please send me your finest song [as a high quality .mp3] to:
themysterytour@gmail.com
Please include a short biography, details of any forthcoming gigs and / or releases, and your preferred web link.
For separate gig information, please use:
welshgigs@btinternet.com
Please tune in tonight from 10pm on BBC Radio Wales, or tune in via Listen Again on the BBC Radio Wales homepage whenever suits you over the next week.
