About me:
From a young age sound has fascinated me by the way it can affect our mood and invoke emotions. This attraction has led me to work with music for much of my life. In junior high school I helped the school orchestra and in high school I worked with a mobile sound system that traveled to small towns for schools dances. As I grew older I worked as a DJ for a radio station and a college nightclub, In 1986 I went to school at the Recording Workshop in Ohio and I was certified as a sound engineer. When I moved to Minneapolis I worked as a music buyer for a wholesale recording distributor. The guitar has always held a remarkable attraction. To me no other instrument is as versatile or expressive as the guitar. I started playing the guitar in college in 1981. Shortly after moving to Minneapolis in 1986 I formed a band and we released three recordings on an independent label. I first began modifying guitars for myself and others in 1988, trying new ways to make guitars play and sound different. I have always enjoyed working with my hands. In 1993 I studied cabinetmaking at Minnesota State College Minneapolis Technical earning numerous academic awards and graduating at the top of the class. I have worked as a professional woodworker for over fourteen years. During that time my work has appeared in numerous publications including Architectural Digest, on the cover of Midwest Home magazine, in the luxury magazine Marq, Guitarmaker Magazine, on the TV show "Home Time", and the TV show "Blueprint for Green". In 2003 I enrolled at Minnesota State College Southeast Technical to study musical stringed instrument repair and construction. I studied archtop guitar construction under violin maker John Reed. I studied finishing and electric guitar construction under Brian Boedigheimer and I studied flat top guitar construction with David Vincent. I graduated with highest honors. Guitar making seems to be what my life has been pointing towards all along. My mother is an artist and my father is a retired science professor, this right brain and left brain upbringing is very useful in the building a guitar. I pay a great deal of attention to how small changes made to the design of an instrument affect the final voice. And it is also important that the guitar be an object of beauty. I take great care to find that colors complement each other or that the shape of an inlay works with the entire instrument. My mission is to create instruments that are beautiful, have superior sound quality and are a joy to play. I accomplish this by useing time honored designs and materials and methods that have proven to be worthy. I use a dovetail neck/body joint, scalloped X bracing, hot hide glue and lacquer finish. You could say that I am a traditionalist when it comes to guitar design. The guitar is a complex object and it is important to look to the past to learn what has worked and build from that knowledge. Some of the instruments that I make are created specifically for an individual. The size and features are chosen for a one of a kind guitar that reflects their playing style and aesthetics. Other guitars that I make are my own designs and are used for shows or to be placed with dealers, but all of my guitars are one of a kind creations. With my strong foundation as a woodworker and the experience that I have as a musician and an attention to detail I can produce an outstanding guitar that looks great, plays great and sounds amazing. Tim Reede Custom Guitars have been shown around the United States at the Newport Guitar Festival in Newport RI, the Healdsburg Guitar Festival near Healdsburg CA and the Newport Guitar Festival in Miami Beach FL as well as in Tacoma WA, Red Wing MN, Manchester MD, Scottsdale AZ, Maple Grove MN, Howell NJ, Fargo ND and Springfield MO. Hello Tim
Firstly, I hope all is well with you and yours.  I am personally touching base with everyone on my friend’s list.  I have the next few months off before I start a tour early next year, and I want to take this time to thank you for your friendship and support , and share my latest news.  In my latest blog I posted the transcript of my recent interview with MUEN Magazine, which was featured in the October issue. It explains a lot more about who I am behind the music, if you are interested. There is a free mp3 download of a song I did called “Be Still” that can exclusively be downloaded from my iLike profile. As always, just click on any of the links on the right side of my main profile page to access my iTunes, Facebook, YouTube, iLike, official page etc.  If you will, please add me at any site you are on, as I do different things on each site.  I am also announcing that “Blush” and “Disclaimer”, two songs off my debut album “The Good Fight”, will soon be downloadable on Xbox live and PS3 Nation to play on Rock Band. I leave you now with a song I uploaded today on my YouTube.  It’s my spin on my all time favorite blues song, and part of my live set.  I recorded it at my house the other day. It also debuts the new logo I designed. Hope you enjoy it. If you dig my work, share it with a friend. I don’t care about fame or money, I am just one man who loves music, and dedicates my life to sharing it with as many people as possible. Thank you again for your friendship and support.
Best Wishes
Gregory
