Reels of White Softly Flow formed in 2000 to play live soundtracks to 8mm vacation films. The band played sporadically at parties, in art galleries, and in occassional real venues. The philosophy was simple:
1. Never practice
2. Live shows completely improvised
3. Only release live recordings (originally vinyl only live recordings, but this rule was broken in 2004)
The band annoyed many friends to share their bills and got to play with Denison Witmer, Early Day Miners, and Unwed Sailor.
We blew out a sound system while playing in Rockford, Illinois. Cheap Trick was not in attendance. We're mostly sorry (to the guys in Fine China), but it was pretty cool.
Due to logistical complicastions, shifting directions and ideas, and other committments, Reels of White Softly Flow disbanded after a massive farewell shared performance with friends Anathallo, Foxhole, and Saxon Shore in August 2005.
It was a nice ride.
Occassionally, live mp3s are posted at reelsofwhitesoftlyflow.com/mp3.
Former members are now in Saxon Shore, have formed the band Soporus, are Norwegian indie rock legends, and/or are making rock videos for the jet setting indie rockers of our generation.
Thanks for the add. I waited till 2 am a few years ago at Cornerstone to see you play. The show was truly an inspiration and I haven't seen any live performances since that even come close. I have your record and hope to hear more in the future!
