Written & directed by Gary Sironen. The cast of "Reformation" consists of West Michigan actor and playwright Rodney TeSlaa in the role of Martin Luther, Kimberly Kay as Kate von Bora, and 30+ members and friends of Christ Lutheran Church as peasants, princes, popes and cardinals.
Influences
My influences in musical theatre include Stephen Soundheim, Stephen Schwartz, Andrew Lloyd Weber and Leonard Bernstein.
"Reformation" is a challenging but entertaining 2 1/2 hour pop/opera (think "Jesus Christ Superstar" 1,500 years later), produced annually by Christ Lutheran Church in Wyoming, MI. We began performing it as a collection of original songs in 2000 and have workshopped it each year into a full stage production. It is generally historically accurate, useful as an introduction to a history of the 16th century Protestant Reformation, written in the style of a Broadway musical. Script and music are also available for rental and production by churches, colleges and regional/community theatres. The musical is family friendly.
