Keep Your eyes peeled as well for the new Regal Club Nights taking place at the Fly!
What Regal Is All About!
Having scored their first ever No.1 single in Summer 2006 with Lily Allen’s ’Smile’, Regal Recordings launch the Regal Singles Club. Regal, the Parlophone imprint that uncovered The Beta Band, will be releasing a 7-inch single every month for the next year - twelve singles from twelve very different, but equally innovative new acts.
Parlophone/Regal M.D. Miles Leonard says, "The new Singles Club is very much a continuation of what Regal exists for - we’ve always picked up artists for one-off releases. The plan is to bring out a single a month featuring two tracks from an artist that’s doing something that really excites us. Some of these acts might go on to bigger things, some of them might not, but all twelve releases will definitely be worth hearing."
Each of the highly collectable 7-inch releases will be limited to 500 physical copies (although the tracks will also be available to download).
The History of Regal Recordings
Regal Recordings was founded in May 1914 and was soon releasing records with brilliant titles like ’Come On Baby, Fox Trot’ and ’The Elephants Marched Around March’. EMI took over the label in 1932 and merged it with Zonophone records a year later. Regal Zonophone became home to acts including George Formby and The Salvation Army.
In 1967, two of pop’s hottest producers - Denny Cordell and Tony Visconti - signed to Regal Zonophone, bringing with them acts like The Move and Procol Harum and, later, Joe Cocker and Tyrannosaurus Rex. However, when the production deals ended in the early 70s, the label folded.
In 1995, Parlophone revived Regal, establishing it as a magnet for new, innovative talent, including The Beta Band, and now, LILY ALLEN and BABYSHAMBLES.
A
4 track EP, titled Call Signs, it provides the perfect introduction to
the band prior to the release of their debut album, Grappling Hooks, in
early 2010.
North Atlantic Oscillation's "Hollywood Has Ended", from the forthcoming album Grappling Hooks, is featured in this month's Police Box compilation from TenTracks. It's here:
In case you haven't heard, TenTracks is a new music delivery service where you can buy exclusive 10-track compilations for £1, i.e. a mere 10p per track.
This month NAO are in the illustrious company of the excellent Found, Orkestra Del Sol, Fence Collective luminaries James Yorkston and King Creosote and exactly 5 others. Once again, that's £1 for ALL TEN TRACKS. Not bad, really.
