BIOGRAPHY

Rehan Dalal is an up and coming singer-songwriter from Waterloo, Ontario. He has been steadily breaking his way into the local music scene through his participation in various open-mic and songwriters circle events in the tri-city area.

Having grown up in a household where jazz was played on the stereo from morning to evening, Rehan got his introduction to music at an early age. At age six his parents enrolled him in piano classes after noting his talent for playing songs by ear on the old keyboard that was lying around in his house. However his interest in the piano soon waned and his passion for music would not be ignited again until almost a decade later when a friend introduced him to the Dave Matthews Band.

“It literally changed my entire take on music.” says Rehan “I had never heard anything like it before. This was something pure and sincere, not just a string of loud distorted noise or cheesy boy-band pop music. This was an amalgam of rock, jazz, blues and country like I had never heard before. It was an important turning point in my life.”

Intrigued and inspired by this new musical discovery Rehan took to playing the guitar and found himself addicted to the sound and sensations of playing his instrument. Having always possessed a penchant for writing, Rehan decided to try his hand at penning lyrics and soon enough found himself put music to the words he had on page. As time passed he found himself, ever increasingly, turning his day-to-day experiences and observations into songs.

Drawing inspiration from his musical idols such as Dave Matthews, John Mayer and Damien Rice, his music is best described as soft acoustic-rock with undertones of blues and jazz. Combining compelling lyrics with moving melodies, Rehan attempts to tell a story through each of his songs, whether it be personal or about the people and places around him.

Although he often performs with nothing more than an acoustic guitar, he occasionally plays with guitarist/bassist Marcus Low and percussionist Avinash Jayakumar.
