Scraping his knees and working his way into the music scene, Greg Reichel stands out from your normal singer/songwriter. Growing up in Oklahoma and watching the music scene move around a bit, Greg knows exactly where he stands. “I've never been the type to write songs about love. I write songs about true stories, my past experiences or just whatever is circling around in my head. My way of expressing myself is writing a song,” said Greg.
While growing up he stumbled through different genres of music, but Greg finally landed his feet in the path he plans to stay on and where he belongs. Greg said his dad, Ron Reichel, being in the music business himself, really influenced and opened his eyes to be active in it as well. At a young age, Greg spent many nights with his dad sitting in the corners of Dance Halls and Saloons listening to live music. Then was when he realized that was exactly what he wanted to do. After receiving his first guitar, a short time after, he sat countless hours in his bedroom trying to conquer songs adults were learning to play. Several years later, Greg decided to take his music to a different level. He started performing at street parties, bars, and other music venues. Living outside of a “Big” college town, Norman, OK, Greg started playing on a normal basis in the Norman area. After people started watching and listening to him play, he started carrying around a following with him wherever he was playing.
Now Greg's dream is to carry his music to the next level and make it his profession. You can find a wide range of music on his set list, not only his originals but also artists such as, Townes Van Zandt, Todd Snider, Ryan Adams, Neil Young, Marshall Tucker Band and more. Stepping out of the lines and being recognized by a different sound, his voice can be described as a drop of whiskey on the wires of a static radio with a raw sound that would stand out different from any other artist. He has the ability to take a crowd, flip them upside down to the point where they wake up the next morning wondering if they made a fool of themselves the night before.
Greg released his debut album in the middle of June with some solid up beat original songs. It has a distinct sound that no one can quite put their finger on. Recording was done at Dirty Bird Studio in Norman, OK. The project was produced by Travis Linville, and mastered by Joe Hardy. Also, joining Greg on his album is Jeremy Watkins, fiddle; and Eric Hansen (Mike McClure Band), drums. Look for Greg to be in the area near you soon.
