"The souls of people, on their way to Earth-life, pass through a room full of lights; each takes a taper - often only a spark - to guide it in the dim country of this world. But some souls, by rare fortune, are detained longer - have time to grasp a handful of tapers, which they weave into a torch. These are the torch-bearers of humanity - its poets, seers and saints, who lead and lift the race out of darkness, toward the light. They are the law-givers and saviours, the light-bringers, way-showers and truth-tellers, and without them humanity would lose its way in the dark." -Plato
"If you compare the City to the Forest, you may begin to wonder why it's man who goes around classifying himself as The Superior Animal." - The Tao of Pooh
"Liberty has never come from the government. Liberty has always come from the subjects of it. The history of liberty is a history of resistance." - Woodrow Wilson
"If we let people see that kind of thing, there would never again be any war." - Senior Pentagon official, explaining why the U.S. military censored footage of Iraqi soldiers sliced in two by U.S. helicopter fire.
"When you arise in the morning give thanks for the morning light, for your life and strength. Give thanks for your food, and the joy of living. If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies with yourself." - Tecumseh
"Beware the leader who bangs the drums of war in order to whip the citizenry into a patriotic fervor, for patriotism is indeed a double-edged sword. It both emboldens the blood, just as it narrows the mind. And when the drums of war have reached a fever pitch and the blood boils with hate and the mind has closed, the leader will have no need in seizing the rights of the citizenry. Rather, the citizenry, infused with fear and blinded by patriotism, will offer up all of their rights unto the leader and gladly so. How do I know? For this is what I have done. And I am Caesar." -- Julius Caesar
"We talk about the American Dream, and want to tell the world about the American Dream, but what is that Dream, in most cases, but the dream of material things? I sometimes think that the United States for this reason is the greatest failure the world has ever seen." - Eugene O'Neill
"Patriotism is the conviction that your country is better than all the others because you were born in it." - George Bernard Shaw
"Cautious, careful people, always casting about to preserve their reputation and social standing, can never bring about a reform." - Susan B. Anthony
"I believe in God, only I spell it Nature." - Frank Lloyd Wright
"Religion has a healing side, but it also has a killing side. In the opening chapter of Genesis - the founding .. of three great faiths - the first murder rises from a religious act. You know the story: Adam and Eve become the first parents to discover what it means to raise Cain. God plays favorites and chooses Abel's offering over Cain. Cain is so jealous he strikes out at his brother and kills him. Sibling rivalry for God's favor leads to violence and ends in death." - Bill Moyers
"A long time ago a bunch of people reached a general consensus as to what's real and what's not and most of us have been going a long with it ever since."- Charles de Lint, "Where Desert Spirits Crowd the Night"
"There's no use trying. One can't believe impossible things." "I dare say you haven't had much practice. ... Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast."- Alice in Wonderland

Peace of Wild Things
When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought of grief.
I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light.
For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.
- Wendell Berry

I’m a philosophic, tree hugging, dirt worshiping woman, mom, grandma and at this time, homesteader. I’m anti-establishment, pro-environment, outspoken, a truth teller and non-conformist as well as a visionary, poet, artist, herbalist and healer. My spirituality is based on the elegance of nature and the cosmos rather than a personal god. I believe in the supernatural as simply natural and think the only chasm that really exists between the two is in our limited thinking.
I live as simply, sustainably and artistically as I can. I love to create whether preparing a home cooked meal for family and friends, designing a new piece of jewelry, blending oils and herbs or crocheting a shawl or afghan for someone to wrap themselves in.
Mornings sometimes find me stumbling hurriedly from bed, fumbling to find pen and paper to write down dreams, revelations, poems or epiphanies before they are lost in wakefulness.
I love living in Ohio where the seasons change dramatically enough that I still become anxious for Springtime, excited when I see the first firefly in Summer, revel in the crispness of Autumn days filled with umber and amber and delight in the first snowflakes of Winter.
I love sitting on the porch watching summer storms move across the field, curling up with my cat-children Arther, Oden or my boy dog Timmy, the satisfaction of a days work well done, summer breezes through the bedroom window wafting across my body, music that touches my soul, movies that touch my heart, and anything that makes me laugh.
I love playing in the rain, singing loudly (despite protests), hugs, kisses and I love you’s from my grandbabies (and they are grand!), intimate moments, resting under the shade tree, the scent of lilacs and roses, fresh coffee brewing and bread baking.
I value honesty, integrity and authenticity in myself and others.

Don’t hand me a dainty cup, I like a stoneware mug,
Don’t serve my cream in silver, I’d rather pour it from the jug.
Don’t dress me up in finery like someone else you know,
I don’t believe in falsity or putting on a show.
I live my life authentically and hide no part of me,
You can take me as I am or else just let me be.
I choose my dress for comfort and the shoes that fit me best,
I’m not competing for a prize or Mr. Blackwell’s best.
My life is simple but it’s true, no scarcity it holds,
I’m well pleased with who I am, not fitting others molds.
Should I worry ‘bout opinions or how others go their way?
I’m better served by asking, “Am I who I say?”
