You get a gig in CLT bus/train (YES YOU DID!) into CLT. (Meanwhile CLT is sending out local bands). You're having a good time jamming with the local talent (they got studios in CLT) and want to quit the band and stay. I'm not gonna talk about hotels and clubs. I'm going to talk about "Man, can you spot me?". Musicians always wore a "big ring". That was the credit in those days and RELIABLE PAWN SHOP wore one of those eyepieces to check the credentials of "your diamond". All musicians wore a ring: that was their CCard. You know: Chinese Bankers love Maurice Williams and are scared of Arthur Smith. YOU KNOW: This a conversation I'd LOVE to have with Melvin. He's not online now. But he's hear now. SCOOT	Apr 6 2009 12:55 AM I remember going to Reliable Pawn with my brother who was playing with Patty Loveless at the time. He bought a 68 Fender Precision Bass from Melvin. A few years later I bought my first PA and microphones from Melvin at Reliable in 1978 after my High School Graduation. I bought a 76 Orange & White Pinto then went by U-Haul & picked up a small trailer. Brought home 2 Perkins Boxes 1x15 JBL's, 2 Horns with Piezos, 6 SM57's and a Crown DC300 power amp, cables for all. Everything was so simple then, to get what you needed and at a fair price. I cried when Reliable closed its doors. Damn Im old. Long live those great memories.
