RELIC is an alternative rock and nu-metal group based in Namibia’s capital, Windhoek. Former Multisonus lead singer Mark Preller and former Velcro and Trigger drummer Michael Byrne founded the band. They met a few months before they formed RELIC while touring together with their former bands in 2005. In February 2006, they decided to start a band of their own with a more simplistic yet dynamic sound. They later got Franco Venter on lead guitar and Gerhard Becker on bass guitar. The first event they played at was the DSSW Power Party in 2006 followed by the Karibib Arts Festival and the Namrock Winter Meltdown in the same year. They opened for various local, South African and international acts. Later that year Franco and Gerhard left the band due to changes in RELIC’s music style. As for Mark and Michael, they had a difficult time with the line up changes in the band that followed after Franco and Gerhard's departure. It wasn’t until March 2007 when they found Stephen Slabber to fill in the spot as a permanent bassist for the band. This youthful but talented trio creates a very powerful denotation to their music combining heavy guitar riffs, funky bass lines along with driving double bass and use of both screaming and clean melodic vocals. Their style appeals quite often to the younger audience, who in turn are rewarded with an amazing and energetic stage performance, as well as good music.
