When we started writing "A BEAUTIFUL VIEW FROM THE MOON" we focused and tried to live inside of the details...Experimenting with instruments and percusion drew the back drop to every drop of paint that we laid...Fortunate enough to have almost unlimited studio time a portion of this album's songs came together as a blank page fills with ink...It was exciting...Once a week from 2007 to the end of 2008 we went out to my brother Eric's studio in Armada Michigan, sometimes with an idea to build on and sometimes with nothing...We always finished off the night proud and creatively fullfilled with what we were making, as well as a little shnocked...Rushing out a half worked idea due to studio time or a uncreative band member was never an issue...
There are a couple stand out tracks for me that made me smile and step back to look at the group of guys that were giving their total hearts, believing in this...one of my favorites is "Rising Atlantis"...To me that song captured an expansive process that we were working inside of...I had bought a Ukulele the week prior and had written the main melody sitting around the house as kind of a happy little song, watching my kids dancing to it and smiling is always my favorite audience...I remember digging around through all these odd instruments that my brother (Eric) has gathered through his journeys and finding a beautiful balance...the flow of that song is one of my happiest moments of this entire album....
There are others that I fell in love with...Matter of fact there isnt a single song on there that dosn't belong or is lacking a story, although I don't think that book could be covered in these short paragraphs...The way it came together was rather effortless and true, the kind of pride that made me realize that we have really accomplished the tapping into ourselves with no other motive than to please ourselves and find the collaboritive respect that's involved in this kind of project...It's always been my assumption that the best music, or at least the music that I listen to the most, is written from a talanted place inside the writter that is a bright ocean of ideas and understanding...
So here we are, a year and a half of writting and recording is history to us...we are fine tuning an album, anticipating what our next move will be and enjoying our lives...We are excited to get our live situation tweaked and hoping for an eventfull summer of 09...I hope once "A BEAUTIFUL VIEW FROM THE MOON" is finished that you all can see a portion of the life that went into the best past two years of my life and celebrate with us...
Thanks for the add and taking the time to listen to my music. I am sure that you get request from bands all the time so it is really cool of you to actually listen. What are your favorite bands?
