Biografia Renato Curci

Nato a Bari nel 1959 inizia a far teatro a 16 anni . Segue i corsi del Cut - Centro Universitario Teatrale; in seguito il Corso di formazione di Carlo Formigoni, con le lezioni determinanti sull'estraniamento brechtiano, quelle sulla musicalità ed il ritmo di Michel Seigner fino all'incontro fondamentale con il mimo Hugo Suarez, da lì in poi suo maestro e amico fraterno, con il quale oggi scrive e crea.

Dal 1981 si trasferisce a Vienna dove inizia con esperienze di teatro di strada per poi essere notato dal Serapion Theater - oggi Odeon Theater - e quindi risucchiato per quattro anni estentuanti in una tournée mondiale che lo porta nei più grandi festival del mondo compreso quello di Nancy.

Nei quattro anni, esperienze fondamentali anche con il cecoslovacco Laco Povazaj e due esperienze di alcuni mesi l'una a Parigi, con Augusto Boal dove impara la tecnica del teatro forum.

Da lì in poi è un continuo avvicendarsi di esperienze e passi formativi che nell'indisciplinatezza lo portano a confrontarsi con le più diverse tecniche del teatro, dal cabaret fatto di mimo e gramellot sino ai burattini corporali, senza soluzione di continuità in una tensione perenne tra sperimentazione di nuovi linguaggi - dei confini stessi dei linguaggi - e impegno sociale.

Nel 2003 riceve una chiamata dal vecchio amico con il quale non ha mai perso i contatti: Hugo Suarez - che nel frattempo è divenuto una star internazionale - lo invita in Perù per partecipare alla grande produzione "Manologias" - burattini corporali, fusione di mimo e teatro di figura.

 

Con "Manologias" viaggia per il mondo attraversando i 5 continenti nei più grandi festival e divertendo pubblici di tutti i tipi e di tutte le classi sociali, dagli 8 anni in sù. Al contempo con progetti sociali nelle baraccopoli e tra le comunità contadine del Sud America.

Renato Curci - Biography

Born in Bari in 1959, Renato began to play theatre when he was 16 years old. Attending courses in  Cut - Theatre Universitary Center of Bari - with Carlo Formigoni. Important lessons was about the Brecht's method; music and harmony of rhythm - voice/gesture - with Michel Seigner. The turning point of Renato’s career was the meeting with the great mime, Hugo Suarez: from then, brotherly friend and master. Now they write and create shows together.

In 1981 Renato went in Vienna where he began street theatre as clown and mime. Then the Serapion Theatre - now Odeon Teather - takes him on his drama group. For 4 years he go round the most important international festival of world - Nancy included. Other important experiences were with the Czechoslovakian director, Laco Povazaj and two times in Paris (for three months each time) with Augusto Boal, where Renato learned the Teatro Forum tecnique...

From then, he meets different ways to do theatre. He went across the techniques, the schools, the languages and the theories.

First he began to do cabaret in Vienna - mime and pantomime with gramelot. After this he came back in Italy and he began a long career among cabaret, stand up comedy, theatre and puppetry. Among the most different place and contest: pub, holiday village, street, square and great theatre; some experience in tv - national network as Rai and Mediaset - included. Always testing different languages and their limits.

In the same time, fundamental is the engage in social work. Clown and theatre therapy for drug addicts, young and poor people, psychiatric institutions and hospital; then, Renato invited in specialist's convention as expert. Also he structured seminaries in University of Bari.

In 2003 the friend and great mime - now international star - Hugo Suarez called Renato for a new project of corporal puppet - fusion of mime and puppetry - puppets with parts of body. Renato was already invited in a big opportunity in Milan, but he decide to follow his friend and he went in Perù for the new project of Suarez. Together they created "Manologias" and with this show from 2003 they went round the most important international festivals of the world. Always mixing experimentation on theatre languages with theatre’s social relevance for the community. So they went among the most great puppet&theatre festivals but also into the shantytown and among the suburban and peasant comunities of South America.....
