Influences
Too many to name... I grew up with Mozart, Bach, Chuck Berry and the Beatles in my ears and found inspiration for writing through songwriters such as James Taylor, Patty Griffin, Damien Rice and the Indigo Girls. My voice was trained through idolizing such powerhouse chicks as Etta James, Peggy Lee, Aretha Franklin and Annie Lennox and I am forever influenced my new music that challenges me. Currently delving into the world of electronica, ambient rock, hip hop and soul. I'm constantly inspired by new artists all the time, some of the top grace my Top Friends so please check them out and

“I’m a Katie-girl, I wear sweat and pearls, if you can dance with your demons, well come and give me whirl”. Singer/songwriter Renee Herman is that friend who will tell you the truth even if it makes you laugh, cry and think more than you wanted to. Drawing you in by leading you upward and outward, her honey sweet vocals infuse her performance with intimacy while her Judy Collins range and Etta James sass add power and grit to her Midwestern charm. Raised in both the small rural town of Frankfort, Michigan and the big university town of Ann Arbor, trained in classical, jazz and everything in between, Renee’s border crossing voice brings the fresh perspective of “all sides” to her music. A natural storyteller, inspired by socially aware wordsmiths Holly Near, Dar Williams, and Tracy Chapman, Renee’s articulate lyrics tell of her own search for balance between action and understanding, love and honesty, realism and hope, and she weaves her listeners into this conversation with humor, seduction, and trust.
Runner up for the 2008 Singer/Songwriter Awards (wearelistening.org), Singer/Songwriter’s Studio, Singer of the month, and Berklee College of Music graduate, Renee can be seen promoting her debut EP, Katie-girl, in and around the Los Angeles area with a northwest tour in process for fall. Renee also coordinates benefit concerts for local non-profit organizations, successfully promoting and combining her love for music and belief in change.
