Born and raised in Pennsylvania, Renée Wahl is a captivating alternative country singer/songwriter. “I remember the first time I wrote a song,” she explains. “It was for my grandmother and it meant the world to her. It was such an incredible feeling to give that to someone.”
The songs she wrote in her younger years beginning at age 10 were unlike her current compositions. They were classical piano pieces that won her numerous awards from organizations such as the American College of Musicians.
Her parents laid the foundation by playing records for hours on the weekends as they sang to Ruby and the Romantics, Jay and the Americans, Crystal Gayle, Elvis, Skeeter Davis, Dolly Parton, the Association, and much more. The youngest of four children also positioned her to be influenced by her siblings’ favorite artists such as the Ramones, Hazel O’Connor, Concrete Blonde, Cyndi Lauper, the Cure, and the Smiths. She was also inspired by her grandmother, Renée Conti, who was a Vaudevillian tap acrobat singer with Billy Rose in NY. But Renée was most affected by the sounds of rockabilly in all its forms.
Hardworking and driven, Renée continued to write and pursue music while completing undergraduate and graduate degrees in Physics and Aeronautics respectively in order to achieve a career as a US Air Force officer. She has performed in summer stock theatres, the Music City Community Chorus in Nashville, TN, as well as for celebrity charity hockey games, and the Air Force Ball.
Renée’s immediate goals are to develop her songwriting and production skills as well as to work with others to create good music that people want to listen to over and over again! Her overarching goal is to be a successful singer/songwriter. “I’m always amazed at how much music can influence us,” she says. “I hope to achieve that result with the music I write and perform.”
