Renegade Beat's influences are many and varied, from reggae through 2-tone and modern ska, we also bring in punk, blues and rock influences to try and bring something new to the ska genre. We write relevant, danceable songs that we hope people will enjoy!
Renegade Beat was formed by Sam Drew and Dan Beckett in the winter of 2005, with the aim of making some ska. With the recruitment of Kev Pearce on drums early 2006 and the writing of a handful of songs with an interesting ska/ reggae/ punk sound, the band were ready to begin recording and gigging. Kev left Plymouth after his studies finished, shortly after the recording of our first E.P. In the summer of 2006, Jon Lister joined the band as the new drummer, and with a new edge the band were back on track.
Later on in 2006, Len started playing Sax with the band, and DJ Styles (Dave) started making appearences with the band with some scratches and the like. We started gigging again in the winter of 2006, and recorded a brand new single featuring the new line up over this time. In Easter 2007 Len left the band and Gra joined on trombone, and later in 2007 Tom joined on trumpet.
The tracks you're hearing now are from the new renegade beat e.p with our current line up. Hope you enjoy!
Feel free to add us as friends, we'd love to hear what people think of it, and network with local bands and bands playing the same kind of stuff. We hope to be doing some serious gigging before too long and would really welcome any gig swaps/ support slots coming our way.
See you soon! Be good!

Coombeshead Studios are now looking to take on summer 2008 recording slots. If you are in a band and need a professional recording, we offer sessions at just £12.50 an hour on weekdays and £20 an hour on evenings (after 6pm) and weekends. All this paid time can be spent recording - mixing and editing can be done afterwards at no extra charge. If you wish to arrange a session, please message us and we will give you a list of available dates. Check out our top friends for examples of the recording quality, and the ’music’ section to see who we have worked with!
We also offer CD duplication at between 75p and £1.50 per CD for most requirements. This gets you a case, a print directly onto the CD face (no stickers!) and inlays. Contact us with your requirements for a quote. Recordings do not have to be made at Coombeshead to qualify for this offer - if you already have recordings let us know and we can provide duplication for you!
Members of Rising Tide Plymouth/Anarcho Folko have gone and got themselves in court after a rather jolly protest against E$$O, now we need your support (and cash!). Should be a great gig including the first performance from No World Borders (members of Anarcho Folko, The Directors, Collective Responsibility) and two hours of dubstep DJing from DSM, so get your electro-skanking booties on and come down!
