“Northern Rock,” a blend of Classic Southern jam, Heartland songcraft, and Northwest heaviness (ubiquitous in the shadow of Seattle) ...charity towards all, and malice towards none--musically speaking.
The initial run of The Renegade Saints was 1991-1996, during which, they toured ferociously over half the country, ran in-and-out of various recording studios, and flirted with major record labels. The result was a well-received 1994 release, "Fear of the Sky."
Nearly every song from "Fear of the Sky" received independent radio airplay. “Delivered,” became a modest hit on West Coast commercial radio, while “Tara” was in regular cable rotation.
Hundreds of live shows put them on bills with: Bob Dylan, Blind Melon, Jimmy Cliff, Los Lobos, Jerry Joseph, Leftover Salmon, Cherry Poppin' Daddies, Hootie & The Blowfish, Better than Ezra, Rusted Root, & Zero.
Since those halcyon days of independent music, The individual Saints have continued to work steadily, scattered amongst various solid, acclaimed acts such as Kerosene Dream, John Shipe Band, Lea Krueger, & Tony Furtado.
Recently, they’ve dusted off the old material, with better musical chops, better voices, better clothes (but less hair and shorter solos). They’ve also added new material from their more recent bodies of work.
The reunited Saints bring back the four original members: Bassist Dave Coey, Guitarists John Shipe & Al Toribio, and keyboardist Mike Walker. They’ve added their 5th drummer, Ned Failing (an old fellow road-dog from The Strangers.)
Currently, individual Saints remain creatively very busy—Toribio & Failing in particular--with Tony Furtado & Dirty Martini respectively. (Not to mention Shipe’s continued work as a solo artist.) Dave occasionally plays with Bart Ferguson and four out of five Saints play intermittently as Mexican Gunfight.

Hey Friends, it's me, Flowmotion & the Summer Meltdown Festival.
Just wanted to remind everyone, the festival is coming up in about three weeks or so and tickets are about to go up in price on July 23rd. Now is the time to get your tickets. 30+ bands on three stages, camping on 40 acres next to the river and epic views of glacier capped Whitehorse Mountain from the stage. It's about 75 minutes north of Seattle in Darrington WA. This is going to be one of the best years yet, so please tell all your friends and spread the word about the tickets going up next week. Visit the official site by clicking on the graphic below to get all the details.
Check this shit out...My first Nine Days Wonder show. I was spending the night at Gordon Saverias' house back in 1983. His parents were out of town that night. Gordons' older sister Susanne was in charge. Phil White was dating her at that time. Around 9:00pm, she told us to get in the station wagon. We were going downtown to see her boyfriends' band, NDW. I don't remember the name of the club; I think it was on Broadway. She told us to wait outside the club by the front door. The sound was perfect where we were standing. We found a crack in the window curtains to watch the show. At the set break, we saw Susanne lay into Phil about something. Then she came running out of the club. Our night ended better than hers. I was only 12, but I bet I could have got some that night. That's how I remember it.
Fantasticly fun show last night! The sound quality was superlative.
I was lovin' Left of Center, Good Religion, and of course...MOONLIGHT MILE! I know that Rocko was there with us in spirit. Now if I could only get you to play The Panes! That would really be something special. ;-)
After 20+ years, I'm happy to still be your fan and so glad that you are still sharing your music with us.
Great show tonight. I was very happy to randomly stumble across your CD release party tonight. Great music. It's good to see Dave and Al at it again since the days of Kerosene Dream. Strange to see Dave on bass though. Keep the good tunes coming.
