Ya its spelled R-E-N-A-G-D-E, there's no vowel between the G and D. I dont know how its supposed to be pronounced. I think of it as more of a symbol then a word.
In the beginning we were sitting around Chad's apartment laundry room writing the dumbest songs we could think of. A little while later I thought of putting them to tape. Born was version 1 of FUIS. Friends were like 'wow.... you need help'. And so ended the first chapter of Renagde.
Over the next year it began to include a film club, The Lost Soles made a few amature vids, showed them around town. Music was more a background thing.
As an offshoot of that experience Renagde the band became Renagde Terror - the visual artist beginning in 2003 with the making of a moody cartoon "A Cage In 2" and its sound-track the song "Breathe". A few other others such as 'Enter' were completed, many more uncompleted.
After that began a year of music 'tinkering' with the old punk songs of ours this came to be version 2 F.U.I.S. followed by some new songs called the 'Show Your Blood' demos both were briefly availble online and at Itunes.
These years had some mini-shows, most notably at The Pyramid with Chad, and a lot of random solo acoustic performances at various places across Winnipeg. During this time the punk songs began to evolve into a weird hybrid folk-metal-punk-mood-cheese-Ijussdonno style.
In early 2006 Curtis joined as a bass player, but would only do so with the 'blessing' of his spiritual advisors. So they did their meditation thing to see what the spirits thought and they said it would be a good thing but the name had to be just Renagde. Some live jams were performed with session drummer Scott Druming and last winter saw the release of a real actual CD called 'Wreathe'. It began as a Christmas CD, but we ditched the carols and instead made it a 'winter' themed thing.
'RISE' animated cartoon video for the song from "Wreathe", see it on our website.
Full-length Show at the Albert followed. Much smoke. Returned to the Albert March 10, 2007. Much more smoke, and blinkey lights, and stuffed toys. And during Nu Adventure saw a ghost walk through the stage... weird. Seems we're raising the dead.
As much as we loved Scott we felt Renagde needed our own drummer. A new friend Mike was crazy enough to breathe our poison and became our permanent drum cracker. He had no idea how screwed he was.
His first show with us was Aug 18, 2007. An experimental show that made use of the Park Theatre to re-introduce visuals into the project. Something we hope is a snapshot of the future of the band.
We followed up with a more normal 'quickie' show the very next week at the Zoo. We love playing but we decided to hold off increasing the frequency of our live shows and decided to get those old Renagde Terror songs hammered into amazing new Renagde songs.
We should be back at it in the summer of 2008.
...and here we are summer of 2008!
So far the bands still together. We're debuting our recordings. Lots of heavy stuff this time. Download, Enjoy! ...and so this is Christmas.
We decided to keep Part 1 n 2 in the oven a little longer. At the same went back and redid some bits on Wreathe and remix'd it as well. We'll get to posting the results in the next few months. Cheers.
I stumbled upon your site today... Glad to see that you are still playing music. Please do come by the open mic... The room isn't as big as the Regal Beagle, but does have a similar 'warm' sound to it... We also have an awesome crew of very supportive artists and audience members!!!
You rocked the Park Theater on Saturday! Great job. Love the video you showed while you played. Enjoyed the tunes, of course, and the friends who came there.
Sure glad we came out; thanks.
Keep it up! We'll see ya soon again, we hope. _____________________________ Johnny Nomad & the Wanderers
Really great show you guys put on at the Park Theatre! I had a blast, your stage show kicks ass. I hope to hear (and see) you play again soon. Keep Rockin.. yeeeeeeeeeeeeah!
It is definitely ambitious, but I want it badly! I'm so focused on this right now that I'm confident they'll give me a crack at it. Thanks for the props on the sounds and spread the word. LB 2006!!!
