The Humanitarian Media Foundation (HMF)'s Interests
General
Film, literature, art, music, photography, and how they reflect the human condition; trekking long distances in rugged, dramatic territory by foot or horseback (i.e. Iceland, South America); tasting good wine and single malt Scotch after a hard day.
Professionally: Acting as a conduit among international film, journalism, international policy, and humanitarian personal and corporate philanthropy.
Music
Early U2, Peter Gabriel, The Killers, select film soundtracks, and when working on certain projects, any other kind of music which fits the mood--from classical to Xzibit. (That and Cult of the Psychic Fetus when I need to laugh!)
Movies
Pan's Labyrinth, Dune, Queen Margot, Passion of Joan of Arc, Sin City, Akira Kurasawa's Dreams, Children of Men, Alien, Blade Runner, A River Runs Through It, Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Documentaries: War Photographer by Christian Frei about James Nachtwey, among others; anything hard-hitting.
Television
24, Law & Order: SVU, Frontline, Frasier re-runs, HBO movies, MI-5. Matthew MacFayden is a find.
Books
Foucault's Pendulum, various non-fiction (Guns of August, biography of Gertrude Bell), and Hemingway's Nick Adams stories, The Illumination: A Novel of the Great War.
On May 1, 2008, a new philanthropic organization was launched: The Humanitarian Media Foundation (HMF) (http://www.humanitarianmedia.org). The mission of the HMF seeks to tap into the power of the media—film, both documentary and narrative; art and music; print, web, television, and photojournalism—and extend their influence more broadly, so that humanitarian issues are not just covered in brief articles, commercials, profiles, or soundbytes, but can be explored and given context, so that their importance is more widely known. With greater knowledge, more people in positions of authority and influence can then also be drawn in to be part of the dialogue, so that such issues are not just lamented, but perhaps some constructive and creative answers can be illuminated among those with the greatest capacity to make a difference. To this end, the HMF will be enlisting the support and partnership of news agencies, journalists, filmmakers, writers, artists, international NGO's, figures in international policy, and international philanthropy--among others--to bring attention to areas of humanitarian importance and to act as a conduit among them, so that collaborations and exchanges of ideas might more easily take place.
For further information on The Humanitarian Media Foundation (HMF), including in terms of partnerships among organizations, or about the 2009 HMF International Film/Media Festival & Conference (Dates TBA) please contact us at pr@humanitarianmedia.org.

Who I'd like to meet: Those who are involved in where humanitarian issues and the media meet--including the arts, film, literature, music, journalism, photography, photojournalism, etc.. We would warmly welcome helping to facilitate a community of humanitarian-minded men and women with those same interests to further such a cause. We would welcome all those with similar interests.

Prior to launch on May 1, 2008 we have set up a mailing list for those interested in the Humanitarian Media Foundation (HMF) and its first initiatives, including the 2009 HMF International Film/Media Festival & Conference, a high-profile event which will include red-carpet film premieres, an international film festival, media conference, and art/photographic exhibition.

Hey Repanse de Schoye / HMF, Thanks for the friendship! How are things in New York? It's cloudy, warm and humid today in Milwaukee. I saw you were a friend of Deepak Chopra's, so I thought you might be interested in a new healthy Ayurvedic beverage and ground floor home-based business he's endorsing called Zrii, which features the healing Amalaki fruit from the Himalayas. I hope this finds you well. Have a great week! Wishing you peace, love, and prosperity, Paul Kuhn Cellocaster, Violin, Vocals, Zrii Milwaukee via Aspen via D.C.
