Yes, J.P. Gutrock is alive and well (outside of a touch of gout) and still running Repent Records, the same old pimple on the ass of the Entertainment Industry that it's always been.

Having ripped off...err, worked with such bands as the Phantom Surfers, Crime, Loli and the Chones, Toni OK, Knights of the New Crusade, Jailbirds, HaveNots, Accel 4, Manganzoides, Sir Dance-A-Lot and His Pranceteers (formerly Snacketeers), Trashwomen, Vulcaneers, Pebbles, Titans, Del-Vamps, Showman and His Thunderous Staccato, Stallions, Click Kids, Distractors, Gas House Gorillas, Del Vamps, Galactic Blasters, Astronauts, Highlander Twos, and the rest, here on Gilligan's Isle, seems to have given Repent a certain, if small, cachet among disaffected youth as well as the usual elderly delinquents. BFD.

In addition to select titles from the Repent back catalog (list available upon request), Repent is indeed continuing to put out NEW record releases and even (under the Rudos and Rubes imprint) books. Yes, books. Neither records nor books will fit in your Ipod, but Mr. Gutrock is putting them out anyway. Canny business acumen and deliberate economic suicide? Who cares?

Some concerned souls inveigh against MySpace for ruining some "community." We can only respond by asking what the hell kind of community is composed of mildly sociopathic record collectors who'd slit an old lady's throat for some thirty-forty year old record in VG+ condition?
